Got the eurorack out last night to add some of its drums to a track but got sidetracked.
Anyone had a (normal 3U eurorack, not banana plug style) module where one of its ports won’t work with the cable in but only registers when touching the hex metal around the socket?
Seems to affect the gate input on my Erica Synths Bassline, have to leave the plug resting on the socket to get it to work.
Not used that module for a month maybe but it has never had this issue before.

Do you have a multi-meter? If so, you can conduct some continuity tests between the pads on the PCB for that jack and a cable connected to the jack. Many eurorack companies use kobiconn style jacks, which have three pins, one is ground (sleeve on the cable) one is the signal (tip on the cable) and the third is the switch for normalling to the signal, when no cable is connected. Often the switch connection on an input will be wired to ground, so you might find continuity with all three points when no cable is connected.WatchTheGuitar wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 4:33 am Got the eurorack out last night to add some of its drums to a track but got sidetracked.

In any case, your best bet is probably to contact Erica Synths. Even when I believe I have identified the cause of a problem, I will usually contact the mfg for confirmation. Some companies have even sent me the parts I need free of charge. It never hurts to ask.

Haven’t got any meters/soldering gear anymore, but weirdly when I put my case on a guitar stand to work on it at an angle the port started working again so I’m pretty sure it’s a loose connection as the issue only surfaced when I had the case completely vertical and before then I’d used it only flat on its back.justin3am wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 9:26 amDo you have a multi-meter? I opened up the two stand alone modules that are going into the Euro rack last night. The quadrantide swarm has a little spring tank.
I am wondering if I should get a better spring tank for it since there is plenty of room under the circuit board of the module. Don't know if it would be worth the effort. Spectravox is also very shallow and can easily go over the power block but then it has to come off when I plug in a new module. The slidy screw connectors are going to be a pain.

Spent all day today reading up on different euro rack modules. Looking at specifications on modular grid to check for power consumption because the Kobol Expander needs 1 amp which is a third of the total available.
The Kobol Expander arrived today and I picked it up at lunch and looked at the power plug to check what it says the output power was and sure enough "1.0 amp" so Modular grid is accurate with the specifications they list.

Got the ArgonX on the desk and layered it with an Access Virus emulator.
Very interesting range of sounds.

Here is a crazy hack with the Kobol :
Plug in the main out in back to input one of your mixer, pan hard L
Plug in the output "audio out" from the front pannel to channel two, pan hard R
The waves don't match and do some great phazing...with LFO1 out to VCO1 waveform

I spent all day with the below combination:
Using Pamela's Pro workout to trigger and modulate different things so that I learn all the possibilities.. . Figured out I need more longer patch cables to modulate and trigger from Pro 3's sequencer so I ordered a pack of five 48" ones the blue one triggers PPW in the above picture but I can't control pitch yet. More to figure out. No idea how to change Homanize percent or swing percent yet.
Fun

Some nice minimal stuff with just a 303 through Morphagene and Mimeophon over a Bastl Pizza bassline and Squarp Rample drums. Getting some nice stuff passing things through different variations on Arturia’s Motion plugin.

I've been reading articles on how to avoid musician's / sound engineer's burn out and also learning better how to use LMMS.
I'm gonna export my LMMS stems and import into REAPER for remixing.
Today I also made some mental notes about how I ought to buy a guitar.

Thinking ahead on recording and syncing euro rack with my DAW to not wast money or time .
Because both my (euro rack) synths accept midi IN, I can sequence them directly from the DAW leaving everything else to Pamela's but I need to sync it with DaW start/stop. Just found ALM have a free vst that will do that from my interface. And my interface has DC coupled outputs! So now I need to know if it is TRS to mono or plain mono to mono into Pamela's "clock" and "run" inputs.

I got some of my remixing done and uploaded a few of them to SoundCloud for a fresh SoundCloud (my older one was deleted weeks ago).
I'm working under the silly name "909 County Fair":
