I’m using a lot of plugins in Studio One 6, and once I ditched the IK Tape Machines on every track (16+), I haven’t had to worry about CPU at all. I can tell you for sure that your audio routing is going to have a huge impact on CPU use. For example, if you have a CPU heavy plugin in your Master Buss, that is going to impact your performance a lot more than if it’s on a normal audio channel. But that should be the case with any DAW.

How many plugins on how many channels are you running before you start getting drop outs in Studio One?

I do think this is an issue you could resolve with help from PreSonus tech support.
Thank you for your help and the information. I really appreciate it.

I'm running fewer than 10 tracks in some of these Studio One test songs (and no plugins on the master bus, etc.). So I don't think it's a matter of trying to run too many tracks. Also, I get dropouts on single tracks if I am using a notoriously CPU-intensive plugin like Oberhausen with the polyphony settings too high. The same Oberhausen plugin using the same patch with the same polyphony settings in Cubase will play back fine.

I've also tried different audio interfaces (a Steinberg UR22 USB 2.0 interface and my main MOTU 16A Thunderbolt 2 interface) and this doesn't make a difference.

I think you are right. I should post this same issue in the Presonus Studio One forum and perhaps file a support ticket.

Thanks again for your time. :tu:

It's getting to that time of the year where you would expect an update either incremental or new version, I wonder what they're going to do

It was disappointing for me for 5 and 6 I hope something good happens this time around.

A quick recap:
- Studio One 7 Pro will come out on 9th October
- no more Prime or Artist editions
- $199 for new users, $149 for upgrade from any pervious license
- will include all add[-ons
- upgrade buys 1 year of free updates of which there are expected to be 3-4 / year
- after 1 year lapses, user stays at their last version forever and can upgrade at their own pace (=Bitwig Studio model)

Seems they are changing the model, so an upgrade won't buy updates throughout version number, but limited to 1 year but then you get all the addons included and they seem to be aiming for more regular feature updates so maybe it's not so bad ?

Sounds like what Bigwig is already doing? No, not really bad...

I think the model is good but I really need to see the features they added.

I think it is more logical to buy Studio One+ paying $179 a year instead of paying $149 for the upgrade each year if you are planning to upgrade each year, yes?

I doubt I'll use any of the content or feature of Studio One+ though.

I just hope there will still be sales.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Not if you skip upgrades.

I'm not sure

It's definitely better to buy + if you're a new user instead of paying $199 for a license

But they haven't given a full list of what the $149 upgrade includes, but it does include addons and batch converter so it may included everything that + includes, or maybe they don't include the sample content in +

They really need to get a comprehensive list out to clear confusion

A better title for this thread would be:

I am going to wait for October 9 and then decide.
My current "one and only DAW list" in order of preference:
Reaper
FL Studio if it gets ARA.
Studio One 7
Cubase But Unfortunely the sale ends on 9-25.

Mulab and Hollyhock would be considered if they had ARA.
But
Mulab and FL Studio can be hosted in any DAW.
Extremely happy about this.

Maybe not for you but I don't want more shit, I want less shit, which is why I abandoned Pro for Artist. Hell, it's why I abandoned Cubase for Studio One. Given how regularly 6.6 is freezing and crashing on my new computer, it sounds like I am going to have to start looking for a new DAW. Thank f**k Steinberg have a huge sale on at the moment, the upgrade from Cubase 10 to 13 is only $4 more than this rip-off. And if you don't think that charging loyal customers $149 to upgrade to a product any idiot can now buy for $199 is a rip-off, you need to have a good, long look at yourself in the mirror.

Better still, I might just go back to using Orion, now that Korg do VST 2.x versions of all their plugins. This is terrible news.

I bought Studio One 4 for $199 in 2018, were you complaining about the price then too ? :hihi:

I paid less than that, second-hand. But the thing is, I think the last upgrade was $149 but the expectation was that we'd get free minor updates for a couple of years or so. Now it looks like they are going to want $149 every year and they won't even have to do anything to earn it, we'll have to trust that the minor updates will keep on coming.

Companies do this all the time. They promise that you'll get more frequent updates and everything will be better but, in my experience, it goes the other way - updates become less and less worthwhile and things end up stagnating.

You don't have to pay $149 every year, you can choose when it's worth updating, what's the problem ?
