I recently saw a joke reply and reminded me of this synth, and I have been having an unsolved mystery…

Can anyone told me the story behind this vst (or the original genesis)? Why did it got so much attention and hype at the time?

The original was on Computer Music Magazine media until they switched to requiring cross-platform plugins. I still use it as regularly as many other plugins. I think the controversy over the new version was around the lack of a standard release cycle, and some hyperbole regarding it's capabilities. I never saw an actual download link, or I would have tried it. Others will know more details.
Cheers

It was $1 and had a Bruce Lee skin

I think the hype turned to disappointment since people were thinking it was going to be 64-bit/PC and Mac, and then discovered it was just 32-bit and PC only.

But then again, it was only $1.

I remember the original CM version being very cool at the time, so the hype may not have been totally unwarranted.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

it was one dollar and you didnt have to climb for it. soudn was was pretty damn ok.
lots of 32bit plugins wouldve been worth a 64bit version but never made it´, no big deal, if youre normal

Wouldn't it sound identical to any other synth made in synthedit? I mean just the oscillators.. And the filters.. And everything else.. Same math.
Or maybe i misunderstood software synthesis

I think there can be custom modules in SE, so those wouldn’t sound the same.

So in other words they are arbitrarily coded?
