Kontakt 8 is available now: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... kontakt-8/

I thought it warrants a new topic, because the update is quite big. Admins feel free to delete this, if it's redundant.

More information on Kontakt 8:
https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... -Kontakt-8

In short, Kontakt now allows the new library look (rectangular pictures) in the sidebar, combining both pre-7 and 7 library looks together.

There are 6 new library categories: Instruments, Combined (presets for multiple instruments + new tools), Tools (Chords and Phrases), Leap (new sampler engine), Loops (which are part of the NI expansions), One-shots (also part of the NI expansions).

Exactly. There have long been far superior tools for handling chords and phrases available. It's crazy that people really spend so much money for so little.
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting that the "what's new" video shows nothing related to creating or editing instruments.

The update is £89 for me at the moment, but I know they often discount it by 50%, so I'll wait for a sale.

I am whelmed.

Most DAWS will have chord/phrase functions and third party plugins like Scaler, HY plugins, Harmony Bloom etc.are far deeper than this.

The Phrase generator seems to be a handful of Euclidean patterns with very basic editing functions.

I can't help but feel that the preset system is just pretty much catching up with other preset browsers but also too locked into the NI ecosystem.

It's a definite improvement but too incremental to get excited about

Post

So once again they added a bunch of useless features no one asked for but the browser and overall usability is still shit... And if you thought gatekeeping bugfixes behind a new paid version is bad... NI be like 'best I can do is new features and zero bugfixing'

Post

Don't forget they supposedly improved load times. You know, the thing that should have been an included bug fix in 7. So they CAN fix load times, they just chose not to.

I guess I am still really happy with my Kontakt 6 in Komplete 12 Ultmate.

Because it’s a UI from 2003 that still doesn’t scale properly?

It's more of a Kontakt 8 player than regular Kontakt 8 . Kind of reminds me of Output Arcade or the Loopmasters thingies . I think it's great for singers and folks that don't know how to play instruments or piano and want to make music . Like singers and rappers and beat makers. I think it's great.

Over or under or just whelmed ?
No auto tune...

when all the power users disable usage data tracking, we end up with the concept of leap expansions
