It has a noise source there in the middle of the gui. Though it's not great. Or you can go heavy on the fm/ring mod to get harsher noise.

Fantastic depth in your mix and really delicate choices! Love the composition, too! I think the subtle kick is a brilliant decision that adds excellently to the character of this. It feels deliberate and full of well deserved confidence! 8) :hyper:  ...my kind of jam! :tu:

Here's my ExtraBold track. The girls moved into the studio for this one :-)
Percussion this time is based on a tight brush rather than sticks! Hope this comes through. Also, a baritone sax solo delving into the deep depths of this instrument!

The brushed kit comes through quite well. The background arrangement feels strong and proper. But the lead instruments really are challenging there, I find. The improv is fun and authentic, feeling like a seasoned jazz-head is at work. If only the lead sounds could keep up with it. While the tone of the sort of clarinet like lead is like a classic Hohner preset, :hihi: , the attack especially makes it feel quite "inexpensive", also pushing the sense that it was used for the lack of having anything better, so to say. The sax has the big, big trouble of wavetables, which is the ugly formant pitching, and it's hard to combat. In a certain, narrow range it sounds quite interesting, though, and could very well work. But, again, as it pushes out of its comfort zone, it creates the same sense of "no other preset choice" as that clarinet lead.
The leads then overshadow quite a lot the super-authentic background arrangement with all its really well working band members. I almost would've wanted one or two measures without any leads and possibly a cool bass solo!?! That would've been perfect. Then maybe even a little drum solo to round things off, as this would also probably be quite authentic. Introduce the humor that comes with the genre!
I'm almost tempted to explore what to do with those lead instruments....hmmmmm... I know this synth doesn't make those all that easy, that's for sure. Particularly when you wish to go "real" by any stretch of that idea.

All in all, it's nice to see you have some fun in your jazzy roots again! This stuff just comes to you so easily. I'm still curious about making a nice, walking baseline like that. One day I might try (or try again...I think I might've approached the concept from time to time?!).

Alright, here are two clarinet experiments. One I actually happened to have made early on, but well... I slightly adjusted it. The version 02 is totally from scratch again and also not half bad.
Clarinet_Ideas.zip
No idea how well it would work with the rest, but I had to start playing around a bit...("put my money where my mouth's at"...or what's a proper saying?!)

And here's a little demo (terribly played, but well)... Interesting to work with the pitch bending, though.

I've made a sax, too, now, but it's a bit complicated to play for it to sound sort of natural. But it can! Problem is that the timbre really has to change as it goes up. The only way I found to control that is by means of a one shot LFO 1 on the FM amount, but the FM amount has to be high for the low notes and low for the high ones, making it feel a bit awkward to play. Not to mention that that removes a vibrato option for the mod wheel...hm... still... can sound pretty fascinating and avoids the formant issue quite well.

Thanks Taron, I'll give your clari patches a whirl!.I i tried the first one, and made a few mods. Then looked at the clari 2 one, and saw you made the same mods as me!!!! I'll render out \a version and link you to an mp3 via PM. (Later as I am off fishing!!!).

Yes, you are right, a baritone sax has to feel the reed in the upper registers, but much less so (almost not) in the lowest register.

I should really have 2 tracks, split so the lower reg notes are using a different patch, rather than trying to do it all in one, so to speak!

Hi everyone! How are you? Did you have a good summer? After a few busy months I manage to produce something for osc. I couldn't wait!! :hyper:

I had never tried any Nakst plugin and I liked Extrabold (thanks to Nakst for giving us free) for the speed of use as well as for the overall sound quality :tu: . I'm not a sound designer and this synth allowed me to compose the song without too many distractions or complicated learning curves. After half an hour of use I had already found or modified most of the sounds (and created a basic drumkit) that I needed for this project. The tune was made totally in about 2 days. Some other days for polishing and refining.

Found ultra useful pitch knob in LFO1 assignable to mod wheel :tu: . I'm sorry that in the effects section you can't tweak the feedback of the delays and the decay of the reverbs, but in any case I decided not to use external ones (except for some brief temporary situations where I used Supermassive and Tal-Dub Delay, and DReverb lite on drums bus) because the internal effects quality is pretty good :tu:

I also used this round to test three free interesting plugins that I had heard about in a Youtube channel that I follow and that I will probably use again. They are Spectral Compressor, ZL Equalizer and The Masker (a kind of Soothe2 freeware) .

I had the song title in mind for a while and was just waiting for the moment to use it. I think in music composition there is no artificial intelligence but only modified copies of what already exists. The only form of intelligence is the "natural" one.

I would recommend to check whether all of these Plugins are covered by the allowed Plugins rule.
