I have every single version of Kontakt back to 1.5 installed for backward compatibility. Things resaved in newer versions will be unloadable in the older versions moving forward. The patches imbedded in your DAW sessions should still work just fine and dandy. I tend to keep the original versions of every library and then add a subfolder for K5, K6, etc for any updates.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Kontakt Player capabilities have always been in the full version of Kontakt. Also I wouldn’t say the player is more for people who can’t play instruments. Many instruments are things you actually need to play like pianos and orchestral instruments. And the editing capabilities are not typically for musicians who play instruments, they are for people who script and build instruments (can be the same people sometimes of course).fedexnman wrote: Tue Sep 24, 2024 3:07 am It's more of a Kontakt 8 player than regular Kontakt 8 . Kind of reminds me of Output Arcade or the Loopmasters thingies . I think it's great for singers and folks that don't know how to play instruments or piano and want to make music . Like singers and rappers and beat makers. I think it's great.
I think the unfortunate thing is that Kontakt has lots of features that can be for sound designers, but the editor is really falling behind in that area given that it’s so old. Not that Halion and Falcon and other equivalents are much better, but rather than stealing everyone towards the scripted UIs, it would be cool if the actual instrument building and sound design capabilities were focused on a little more again.

The second part of your comment is absolutely spot-on. The Kontakt editor is practically prehistoric and seriously hampers the workflow. It's baffling that Native Instruments hasn't provided a proper overhaul, especially considering how long it has been neglected. What’s worse, Kontakt still doesn't qualify as a true sampler due to its lack of real-time sampling capabilities. These limitations make it hard to see Kontakt as a truly modern tool for sound designers, and it’s frustrating to see so little progress on these frontsEchoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Sep 24, 2024 6:54 pmKontakt Player capabilities have always been in the full version of Kontakt. You can't say that around here even if it is the truth !enCiphered wrote: Tue Sep 24, 2024 7:09 pm Kontakt still doesn't qualify as a true sampler due to its lack of real-time sampling capabilities.
You've poked the lion and now the fan boys are going to run to the rescue with their silly semantics
There's going to be a stream of arguments - both for and against - but the simple fact remains ...
KONTAKT DOES NOT SAMPLE !
So any way you slice and dice it,Kontakt is not a sampler. ..
It is a big shiny romper with a lot of expansion packs available for it to munch on
No auto tune...

That’s not what it is currently I don’t think there’s any intention to make it such. It’s a tool to sell sample libraries and get a cut of other people’s sample library sales. As long it keeps fulfilling its purpose they’ve got to reason to make meaningful changes.

It's not a sampler but neither is it really a rompler since you can certainly use your own samples and many instruments including the new Leap are setup for drag and drop of user samples, as well as the builder tools. Maybe it's a sompler?digitalboytn wrote: Tue Sep 24, 2024 8:04 pmYou can't say that around here even if it is the truth !enCiphered wrote: Tue Sep 24, 2024 7:09 pm Kontakt still doesn't qualify as a true sampler due to its lack of real-time sampling capabilities.

Sompler. I like this.
The only issue is that when exquisite people (like ones with British accents) say it nobody is going to be able to tell the difference.
