Divisimate 2

Has anybody here tried using this? At first glance, if I get this right, it seems to focus on two things: 1) Taking a monophonic instrument, such as a flute, and using it in a polyphonic way. 2) Taking compositions done with one instrument and assigning lines of notes to different instruments concurrently—a way of assembling your own orchestra. This strikes me as stuff you can do more easily with a daw, really, but maybe I’m not fully understanding its capabilities.
What I’m more interested in is Divisimate 2’s addition of a powerful sequencer, which seems really flexible, easy to work with, enables long sequences, and even offers polyphony. It may be the best sequencer I’ve seen, shy of being an all-out daw. I’m wondering if I can just use this sequencer without going through the seemingly convoluted other parts of the plugin.
There’s no demo available to try out before paying a hefty $245. That makes me pause.
Any thoughts?

Divisimate needs a demo. I almost bought Div1 when I first picked up the swam stuff, and love what they're promoting for Div2 but have so many of my workflows 'set in stone' I don't know if I want to dive in to another layer.
I have a feeling I might love Div2, but not going to blindly buy it. I know the micro is supposed to bridge the gap, but again need a demo I'd probably want the full thing.

Wow. Looks like a real firestorm of discussion on this one. Looks like no one here uses this product.
And it seems like Divisimate needs to come up with a demo for its main product, along with the same for a separate sequencer product, at a cheaper price, to get people more interested.

Divisimate is popular among the orchestral/film/tv/game folks over at vi-control. there isn't nearly as much discussion of virtual orchestra stuff around here.
i have the micro version, which i got basically as a demo. it's a pain to use, with the virtual midi devices, so i don't use it as much as i thought i would. from my understanding, version 2 makes it a more native solution instead, and has some fun sequency stuff, but i doubt Micro will get the same love.
a demo would have saved me the $40, for sure. go big or go home on this one, imo, cuz micro kinda sucks.

I was considering Divisimate micro before Divisimate 2 was released. Now I'm not sure.
What I would want it for is just working out SATB voicings on SWAM strings in real-time.
It's good to see another SWAM user around here. It gets pretty lonely.
If you asked about an arpeggiator for Diva instead, we'd be on page 10 by now.

Frankly, I don't think I'd use SWAM for prototyping SATB voicings in the first place because of the need to generate modulation data for each line – doing four lines at once effectively limits you to first-species counterpoint.
Personally, I'd just use a regular string sample library or something like Symphobia then redo the lines individually for SWAM (and even then I'd be starting with a piano sketch if it needs to be classical/neo-classical as it's just easier to get the rhythmic interplay that way).

Yeah, it's so frustrating that KVR is basically a 24/7 synth talk show. I mean, it's a music forum, not a synth fan club, right? But honestly, it's even worse over at VI-Control. Those guys are like zombies, mindlessly flooding hundreds of posts every time Spitfire or EastWest drop yet another string library that sounds exactly the same as the last one.jamcat wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2024 5:12 am It's good to see another SWAM user around here. At least here, we can still talk about effects and creative tools now and then

It's also surprising there's almost zero good tutorials/forums/etc for swam stuff. I know it's quite niche, but it would be nice to have a place to bounce ideas off of people, ask questions etc because at the moment there are none that I'm aware of. I don't mind learning stuff myself, but as Jamcat said it's been a lonely journey for a long time...enCiphered wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2024 9:55 amYeah, it's so frustrating that KVR is basically a 24/7 synth talk show. i wonder if swam is maybe just a weird niche at the intersection of being pretty nerdy about the midi, being expensive ($600 for just a brass section is pretty posh), having that specific need or desire—maybe a bit of that already-esoteric knowledge veers into "secret sauce" territory for the folks using it for work.Psuper wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2024 2:35 pmIt's also surprising there's almost zero good tutorials/forums/etc for swam stuff. having dipped my toe into acousticsamples vhorns, i think their take on it (hybrid sampling-modeling) is a bit more approachable and feels better to play, even if swam is ultimately more flexible.

It's most definitely niche, and I agree with the 'secret sauce' at least from how I use them. The greater issue is how to control instruments as realistically as possible while recording in the moment, and almost every mainstream controller does not do a good job of it. I don't have that problem anymore though, I pseudo-created my own controller and scheme and is most definitely in the 'how the hell did you do that?' category.funky lime wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2024 4:25 pmi wonder if swam is maybe just a weird niche at the intersection of being pretty nerdy about the midi, being expensive ($600 for just a brass section is pretty posh), having that specific need or desire—maybe a bit of that already-esoteric knowledge veers into "secret sauce" territory for the folks using it for work.Psuper wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2024 2:35 pmIt's also surprising there's almost zero good tutorials/forums/etc for swam stuff. After rummaging around the vi-control discussions on divisimate 2, I saw an invitation on Sept 13 for people to write to support@divisimate.com to get a free trial. Sounds like they're aiming to set up demo downloads from the divisimate site sooner or later. I've approached them this morning and am waiting to hear back.

This is about the only thing I've ever found that's worth anything:
It's done by someone known only as T 1
There are a bunch of tutorials for sale here:

The Music Hackspace videos might be useful, but I'm not going to blindly purchase one at $54 a piece. Especially knowing that the Ask Video "SWAM Demystified" is next to useless. But at least it's half the price.
