Now that is something to consider.
But me, I am addicted to the newest and latest.
What's guy to do?
Oh, I know!
Get Reaper.
Maybe.

About Reaper, I've spent months tinkering with my theme and shortcuts instead of making music :-o

At least Studio One was so barren of joy I wrote songs instead of getting distracted.

It's not bad, but is it really true that I can't scroll horizontally without a mouse wheel?

Every time I start a song and begin to record/arrange a little, I discover a new bug! Few days back, I started a song with 4/4 signature but then I changed my mind and wanted to change it to 5/8. When I did, I saw funny arrangement view that bars don't lay equally graphically! WTF!

I uninstalled S1 and returned to Cubase. I like S1 workflow and design more, but I prefer more stable DAW that I trust it doing the basics at least!

In the past I had a problem with midi timing, then they seem they fixed it, then another time it was input noise from my audio interface then they seem to fix it. They always fix something but break something else! I think I'm done with S1, although S1v7 seems promising and I have ATOM works great with Impact XT, but I can't keep thinking all the times if all is ok or not! In Cubase (or another DAW) I concentrate on making music and recording my ideas while in S1 doubts are always in the back of my mind.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

My experience is the opposite to yours - I started looking for a new DAW because I got sick of losing work when Cubase crashed. Whilst Studio One isn't perfect, in four years I have never lost any work. It does crash more than Cubase did but only ever when closing a song, which I can live with.

It is NOT true, there are scroll bars. I didn't even know you could use the scroll wheel until I tried it out just now (and it's SHIFT+SCROLL WHEEL). It shouldn't need SHIFT, as the scroll wheel by itself doesn't do anything in the Arrangement window (which is why I never thought to try any modifiers).

The point, which I would not have thought actually needed pointing out, is that it will now cost users more than twice as much to stay up to date as it used to. How would you like it if all your upgrade prices suddenly doubled? Because if PreSonus get away with this, you can bet other software companies will notice.

Are you sure? It depends where you drop it - if you drop it in the actual arrangement grid, it will create new channels in the existing project but if you drag it all the way across to where the channel labels and controls are, like you would when you want to add a new VSTi on a new channel, it will open it in a new project.

I’ve had the issue with Studio One crashing on exit, but only ever on Windows. I don’t know that it’s ever crashed for me on Mac.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

I didn't phrase that properly, I meant there seems to be no key command.
I found the scroll bar on the screen, too. :ud:

Also there seems to be no key command for bypassing/turning off an insert effect?
-----------------------------
It only crashes on me when some 3rd party plugin misbehaves. If I throw that out, it works fine.

Do you read the future?! My musical future?! Not sure now if my experience is opposite to yours!

I just did experienced multiple crashes opening a project yesterday that I started few days ago in Cubase! It refused to open! Before that crashes opening another project which has Icarus 3! And before that blacklisted Diva and crashes when I insert it!! I really can't believe it! When I just about to settle on Cubase!
Damn!! I would hate it if it's my profession to make music! Strange that 20 years ago Cubase never crashes on me and I was using it several hours a day!

Anyway, I installed S1 again and tested the signature change in a new project, and it is ok! I spent last night making a drum kit from multi velocity samples in Impact and it was the best experience I had with a drums instrument! The velocities mapped automatically and the colours are distinct to every piece of kit (smart enough to give one colour to all hihats, and another to all snares!). ATOM references these colours of course, so it make it a pleasure to play :) Choking group of hihats is so easy to do. All that done without a manual or any search! Really nice experience :)

It is the same in Cubase. Most of the shortcuts are the same. If you scroll your mouse on the Ruler, you zoom in/zoom out. Also if you want to move the play cursor forward/backward, you can use the "-" and "+" on the key pads (not available on small keyboards).

Another thing, on one specific Windows10 machine S1 makes horrible sounds when scrolling horizontally.
Monitor destroying noise.
Just on this PC. What is that about?
There is more than enough processing power.
Always something.. :scared:

Also the MIDI notes are played only staccato when pushed around in the EDIT window.

If I may inquire: what version of Cubase was it that kept crashing?
On a number of Macs

I haven't left S1 but I am likely holding steady at 6.5 or 6.6 (forget which) b/c of two things.

a) they're getting too commercially encroached. ie: the button to that song publishing site, the name of which I can't recall. I don't want that on the GUI. And this looks to be the general trend w/ them atm. Upgrade price not great, either. For 25$ or so more rn you could buy Cubase 13 outright w/ one of those vouchers.

b) CPU performance.

I won't ever "leave" S1, not for awhile at least, I've done too much in it that needs finishing and for me it's the most user friendly & best looking DAW.

I've dipped my toes in Cubase, Reaper & Live and so far I put them in that order and can reasonably see Cubase surpassing S1 if I get passed a few things workflow wise. For one thing it's better on the cpu w/ my set up, which is also Reaper's main draw.

I've made music in all four that I like, but they're different. Which is part of the appeal to me of switching it up also. Shake things up a bit.

That all said, S1 6(.5 or .6) really has everything I need, so I'll probably be going with that for the foreseeable future, unless my finger muscle memory can become more automatic in Cubase, which is possible as it's the most like S1 in that sense.

I'm averse to blue as a button-highlight color because it's kind of depressing for me, and I didn't see a way to change it. However, I can understand that Presonus might not want that to be changeable, for the sake of consistent brand recognition, e.g., in YouTube videos.
