fwiw, dont pay the full price; udemy do constant sales, it'll be sub $15 on a regular basis.

Also, if you're more book-oriented, Fanatical are doing offering a variety of them as a bundle, cheap.

Any sign of Live being able to keep discrete multiple MIDI channel outputs from plugins without summing everything to Channel 1 or is that still a thing? No upgrade from me until then, I use VCV Rack too much.

Are you safe?

So the answer is: no.

Live 12 Beta Release Notes

12.1b10 Release Notes
September 4, 2024

New features and improvements:
Updated software text in various areas of Live.
The Time filter in the MIDI Note Editor's Find and Select option will now select notes that start just before the highlighted time ranges.
The Pitch Range buttons in Auto Shift now feature LEDs to show which selection fits the current input signal.
In Auto Shift, when a tuning system is loaded, incoming notes are now quantized to the nearest note in the tuning system (with strength and smoothing applied) and the scale controls in the Quantizer tab are disabled.
Updated the Core Library:
- Added new MPE Drum Racks
- Added new Drum Racks by different artists, e.g. DECAP (including new samples)
- Added new presets for Meld, Auto Shift, and Chord
- Small sound and naming refinements
- Fixes in Turkish Makam and Sundanese Gamelan tunings
It is necessary to force your VST3 plug-ins to be rescanned in order for them to be tagged. This can be achieved by holding Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) and clicking the Rescan button in Live's Plug-Ins Settings.
- Improved the accuracy of automatically applied tags.
- Live now supports Sound Similarity Searching for 32-bit integer WAV files.

Bugfixes:
Fixed an issue that could potentially result in MIDI Tools corrupting note data.
Fixed a bug where, for some actions performed via mapped keys, Undo would not revert individual value changes and as a consequence no individual entries would show up in the Undo History, since no individual Undo steps were created.
When repeatedly triggering the same clip manually, e.g. by using Follow Actions or starting the clip's scene, Play One note groups are now correctly reevaluated and the same note no longer plays all the time.
Fixed a crash that would occur when loading the "Faded Keys" Drift preset.
Fixed the following issues with multi-clip editing:
- Fixed a bug where extending note length with the keyboard would not update the time selection.
- Fixed an issue where, when multiple notes were selected in the MIDI Note Editor the time selection would change to include only the recently clicked note.
Fixed a bug where resizing track headers in the Session View in Sets that contained many scenes would cause Live to hang.
The state of the Chain Auto Select setting is now stored in the Audio Effect Rack, Instrument Rack, and MIDI Effect Rack presets.
Fixed an issue that could cause Live to hang when exporting audio for certain Sets.
Fixed an issue where warp markers would not be displayed after undoing a delete action on a clip.
Fixed an issue where audio clips in the Beats Warp Mode with the Transients Granular Resolution would not play back if there was a very small transient distance.
- Fixed a bug where MPE data was not sent correctly if the Arpeggiator or Note Length device was placed inside or after a MIDI Effects Rack device.
- Fixed a bug where instruments or plug-ins that apply MPE data relatively to the value at the start of a note would not receive per-note expression correctly for notes output from the Chord device if its Strum control was set to non-zero values.
- Fixed a bug where the Note Length and Arpeggiator devices would send superfluous MPE events.
Selecting another element in Live's UI now deselects an automation breakpoint previously selected for keyboard editing with the Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) + mouse click combination as expected.
Fixed a crash that occurred on shutdown in some cases.

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

b12 was released yesterday (9/16) and only has a single bug fix. Must be real close now!

yeah, but its a freeze on plugin scanning, so big impact for that one bug; they may have prioritised resolving it.

With 12.1 release, will Ableton be the best DAW for Midi programming? Are there other DAWs with similar or better Midi editing and programming capabilities?

It’s certainly up there, it’s an absolute winner for creative midi editing as the flow of interesting max based midi tools and generators arrive, these are seemlessly integrated now, it’s as good as it gets for that type of thing…but traditional midi editing is more personal preference and FL Studio is still pretty strong in this regard.
