That feature set at that price is truly excellent, it could become a go-to workhorse for a lot of people.

My selfish request: is it possible to add an output clipper? I use a lot of very heavy compression which often requires a clipper after the comp to shave off the tops of the transient spikes, or sometimes I like to drive a soft clipping stage for saturation as well as peak control. Obviously this can be done with another plugin in series, but it is so handy to have directly in a compressor.

Thanks for drawing my attention to it! (How did I miss it?) I'll have to give it a test drive, this is looking like a probable purchase.

Update to V3.1.0:
- New: custom compressor attack/release time shapes
- FIX: VST3 x32

To replicate classic compressors it could be useful to add in saturation (of various kinds, but even just an even/odd harmonics slider and a hardness slider). Maybe just over the threshold (ie. soft clipping starting over the threshold). Since the compressor is already up to 8x oversampled...

With saturation, this would probably be only compressor I would use. Ofc, it needs to be added as an option if you want additional ‘weight’.

We are already working on this ... :tu:

Wow - excellent, cant wait!

What are the typical use cases for the various algorithms?

Just demoing it now. Pretty nice actually. Comprehensive without being overwhelming. No latency. CPU is low but when I enable the true peak limiter it adds about 15% to FL Studio's CPU meter. I'd only do that on the master anyway, but still.

Just a couple of things I don't like: I wish the main dials had more fine control without having to hold down a button on my keyboard (this is just a personal bugbear of mine and not criticism of this plugin specifically). Just moving the wet gain dial a tiny bit to the left makes it go down by 8dB. This is something TDR plugins does very well, lots of fine control.

Also it would be nice to be able to disable the spectrum analyzer on the bottom right. I don't need to see it a lot of the time, and to be honest it's not the smoothest of graphics, quite choppy.

Can we put the clipper before the limiter? That's what I'd usually do. Also some explanation of the clipper algorithms in the manual would be nice. I know what hard clipping is but not the others.

Anyway, overall a big thumbs up, especially for the price.

clipper before limiter as well OR just the option to swap them :)

What do you mean exactly?

The other points are interressing. Need to see what we can do here, thank you.

I think Vortifex means "what are typical uses for each mode?" and maybe there could be some examples in the manual.
e.g. "this mode is often used with aggressive settings for punchy drums, such as the famous blah-blah model compressor"

I agree this could be useful for new users or people who are used to a particular hardware. A big problem with Fabfilter Pro-C is that the many Compressor modes are confusing and the descriptions in the Pro-C manual are very misleading. (For example their so-called "gentle opto" mode sounds more similar to an 1176 than their "classic 1176 style" mode).

That's because their graphic-skills far outshine their DSP-skills.

OK, got the point. We have updated the manual with some information about typical use cases :-)
