The publication announced its closure in a Facebook post, which reads:

“Future Music issue 414 is on sale now, which we must acknowledge with a heavy heart will be the final issue of the magazine…For our final issue, we wanted to leave you with a selection of tried and tested mixing advice to help you nail that final mix. To that end, we’ve curated some of the most timeless and essential advice from our team of experts.

“Sadly, things change, and the concept of a print publication focused on something as forward-thinking as music technology has become an increasingly difficult proposition in recent years.”

Although the print magazine is ceasing publication, the writers and reviewers of Future Music will continue working on MusicRadar, which is also home to Computer Music and Electronic Musician.

Sources have also informed MusicTech that Future will be closing Computer Music, Total Guitar, Guitar Techniques and Guitar Player magazines.
Another one bites the dust :( Did surprise me that Computer Music is also (allegedly) going too after updating their free software offerings.

I'm sure it has been difficult to sell magazines and cheap software collections when youtube reviews and quality freeware and lower cost software is so readily available these days.

I now finally realize that mixing is like exercising in that what works for one person may not work for another.
One has to listen ro their own body and exercise accordingly.
One has to listen to the song amd it's exclusive sound recording and mix accordingly (which might include not mixing at all).
With that being said, there are no experts and those who give advice are the very ones that need to shut the f**k up.
The beauty is, sky's the limit. There are no rules.
Don't let geeks who mouth off jargon fool you into thinking they are experts worth heeding advice from.
Goodbye Future Music, didn't realize you were still around, and your swan song should have been a full blown encyclopedic issue on modular synthesis.

:tu:

The only truth in mixing is "if it sounds good it is good."

Exactly. That should be tattooed on every musician's forehead.

Funny how they mention that particular video. Back then we got into a heated discussion with FM about this one because it promoted cracked software (not ours, but still). We have not advertised in FM since.

Being a DJ - or what have you - with a big name I figure there's no need to use pirated software since there's a good chance you can get it free.
Failing that a substantial discount?
Failing that just buy it and sacrifice the weed for a day or two?
Whatever.
And then you have idiots like me who bought iirc about 3 licenses for Live because it was easier to just go in the store and buy it new rather than upgrade.
Don't ask.

I can understand folding FM, there was too much overlap with CM. But, CM will still be available online, no?

Post

Who needs CM online when you have a plethora of exquisitely informative videos by honest experts on Youtube?

Post

I loved the free loop and sample packs, I'm sorry

Post

:( I'll miss the 'Classic Album' section.

Wait... is this sarcasm? I think it's sarcasm...

Wow you've good eyes, just scanned the video to see what gave it away, Sylenth 1 being registered to Team Air right ?

It's in the comments. It was quite the controversy back then.

I remember that. someone else famous got clocked with cracked software also and I remember them claiming it was to prevent downtime if iLok wouldn't work. Can't do that with Sylenth.
BTW Urs, got Zebra CM in the final issue. It's delicious. I want to try and make some presets.
