Hey Everybody,

Image

I'm proud to announce we've just released a new free app & plugin called "Plugin Buddy"
You can grab it here https://modalics.com/products/plugin-buddy-free

Plugin Buddy is a VST3 host that comes in VST3, AU, AAX & Standalone formats - it loads VST3 plugins in any DAW. It's meant to make life easier for people that want to create chains containing MIDI plugins, instruments and processing plugins. It also has a bunch of additional free components such as a velocity curve, transpose, MIDI Monitor as well as a simple and effective synth and a couple of processing plugins.

You can check out the full tutorial here https://youtu.be/PfsmPkoykMI

If you have any questions we'll be happy to answer them, hope you enjoy Plugin Buddy and let us know what you think!

Fantastic, thank you for the helpful software! I’m using 2-3 DAWs and plug-in compatibility has become crucial for my workflow. It’s very much appreciated! 8)

A quick note, works great on most synths. However Softube CS80 it basically freezes the GUI. Great for setting up an fx chain and then changing the sound source. Thanks.
Mac Studio
13.6.6
Cubase 13, Ableton Live 12

Any chance you could provide a linux release? This is exactly what Linux needs. :)

Thank you! We're aware of the Softube issue and will try to find a fix for it. If you run into any more issues please let us know.

mmm, Not sure. It's possible we could do a Debian/Ubuntu release only at some point, but it would be very difficult to support many of the distros out there.

It's something that we might consider in the future when we can hire a full time support person that can actually have a few distros installed and answer people's questions or handle bug reports.

Debian/Ubuntu as a single supported distribution would be just fine. We now have the technical ability to run whatever binary you provide, despite what our base distro is, through toolbx or Distrobox. :) Modern Linux distros allow for this. You wouldn’t need to hire anyone extra. :)

This thing buggered up my Studio One installation, I now have duplicate plugins listed in Studio One's browser. Those with thumbnails no longer work. Just totally weird, but I remember the Modalics plugin buddy crashing when looking for plugins.

Woah, that sounds strange... I can't imagine why the two would be related. Plugin Buddy isn't changing the plugins folder or touching any files that S1 (or any DAW) is creating. Have you tried clearing the S1 plugin cache?

Mine worked fine for 2 days. Then I loaded Halion Sonic and that worked initially. Fired up Cubase 13 on Windows 11 the following day and it crashed Cubase 13 and shut down. I got several notices from Cubase indicating severe problems (likely from each VST) before it crashed. Had no other option but to un-install it. CAN'T USE IT.

When you say it crashed, I'm guessing you mean it crashed the project it was loaded in. Is that correct?
Plugin Buddy is not running any code unless it's explicitly loaded into a project or running in standalone.

If there's a particular Cubase project that crashes, feel free to send it to us and we'll take a look! info@modalics.com

Sorry, should have been more specific. I meant to say that Plug-in Buddy crashed on start-up since it looked to VST3 folders (?) and it seemed to violate Cubase integrity.

I tested it standalone, did a search for plugins vie my VST directory, the program crashed whilst doing that, I then loaded up Studio One and found it buggered things up. Uninstalled it and it's still buggered up. It's like a DAW virus :x

It's affecting VST2 versions of the plugins, for example if you have a VST2 version of Hive, only the VST3 version will work. It removes your ability to use VST2 plugins.
