I’m buying a Korg Modwave and I’m wondering how many presets it comes with. Does it have a ‘compare’ function? Since I currently have no access to a computer, how difficult would it be to update the system? Are there any online Wavetable editing tools available? I currently have an iPad and an iPhone.

The Korg Modwave is amazing, so congratulations on the decision! Managing the content in the Modwave would be quite challenging, if not impossible w/o access to a computer unfortunately. However, Modwave offers quite a bit under the hood. Just looking at the PC Editor for the modwave module, I'm showing it has: 251 Performances, 435 Programs, 80 Kaoss Physics Presets, 347 Motion Sequence Presets, 243 Wavetables, 26 Scales, and 661 Effects Presets. That's quite a bit to work with, but no compare & no wavetable import, without their Librarian. I could be wrong about that.

How many samples are included?

Post

Technically none, but it has wave tables some of which probably were samples at one point. Each wave table has up to 64 frames/waveforms and it has a total of 243 stock wave tables. Even with a PC, you’d have to convert the sample into a wave table using their wave edit software.

For samples, their wavestate product is incredible with a rich library of samples/multisamples.

As for updating the OS without a computer...might be difficult, I suspect. I have Opsix and Wavestate (same stable as Modwave) and I doubt I could have updated on a tablet/phone. It's physically doable, as you connect up via USB, but I remember having having to diddle around with drivers and Win settings etc to ensure it worked. That might not apply to Apple though I dunno. It's only the first time you update that you need to do all the fiddly bits, but hats off to Korg - their instructions were foolproof even to a computer illiterate like me. Possibly the editor/librarians will work on an ipad? Korg seem to be quite into ipad/tablet sw nowadays.

Just checked...Korg site still states the updater needs a computer, so it looks like you wouldn't be able to update it. On the upside it looks like they got some kind of sample compiler with the editor/librarian, which I assume converts them into wavetables? EDIT...no, it actually loads samples now - only 1 bank at a time. Must admit I didn't know v2 made it into a sampler too. Probably 4GB same as Wavestate. I also couldn't see any reference to ipad/tablet for the editor. I think you're shit out of luck. But the actual basic synth itself is pretty powerful without any additions.

Yes, modwave loads samples and multisamples, so it is a pretty powerful beast.

Wow - just saw the ability to load your own multi-samples! I've just been using it for wave sequencing and completely forgot about the Sample/Multisamples. And there's quite a bit of room for your own - 4 GB of space! Thanks for the reminder! :D
