I want to take the casing off my AN1x and paint it. Never done anything like this before. Any AN1x owners have any advice before I rip her open?
I'm hoping this will this be easy.

Dont own one.
BUT
...take notes on every single thing you remove, disconnect, desolder or unscrew...
better still, get a digital camera, photograph it as you go along, and take copious notes of what's been done in the photos...

I hate the color, for one. For two, why not? I mean, when your wife gets a little long in the tooth, it would be indecorous for you to suggest cosmetic surgery.
If fact, it might me dangerous.
But with my Yammie, I have this luxury.
And, yes, I will give it bigger "knobs," Chris. I'm thinkin' double D.

You might want to read about people who have repainted their computer cases. There are plenty tutorials for that sort of thing on the internet. Just look for:
Computer Case Mods
That should get you started.
One thing that might be helpful, is that a lot of computer parts are plastic and they often describe the best ways to get a very high quality, long-lasting finish on both plastic and metal surfaces. I don't know if your synth is mostly metal, plastic, or whatever, but the computer case painting tutorials should have something of relevance for you.
I just have one question. What about all the control legends? Are you wanting to maintain those, or simply paint over them and forget about them? Maintaining all the legends could get tricky.
You might also want to ask this question on the Synth-DIY mailing list.
take care,
McLilith
