some new Ableton hardware incoming on October 8th.

I suspect a fader/knob bank. Revealing it on the 8th of the 10th, there's probably some significance to that. 8 knobs/8 faders ? 18 controls, 16 for channels and 2 for master ? Something like that. 8th of October is a Tuesday, it's not like Tuesdays are known as the best day to launch something. So they're being cute with the date imo.

What do you think it will be ?

The teaser is a joke:

What's this? A digital watch in collab with Casio?

Hoping for a dedicated drum machine/controller and not a beat driven Fitbit. :phones:

notice how the first graphic is a stereo channel with it's volume gently being faded up ? adding an eye drop of fuel to the idea that it's fader/knob related.

but ... with all those low res graphic icons, that alludes to a smaller, simplistic screen for this device. This wouldn't make much sense if it was a fader sidekick to the push, given the high resolution of the push screen.

so, now I'm thinking some stand alone, modest/low powered little music making machine - something in the realm of teenage engineering. and if so, hopefully without the boutique marketing/pricing schemes. I'd be surprised if it didn't export to Live, and if it could import in some capacity that would be super sweet.

I also suspect that the music for the teaser was made by the device ...

The icons are like those in the Ableton Note app. Perhaps this is a more advanced hardware version.

In that case I hope they're adding some more synthesis options to Note, isn't it kind of limited in this respect ? they added Drift presets to tweak ? I haven't been keeping up to date with Note.

It's interesting though, because ROLI are also launching something on October 8th ... and Drift is an MPE enhanced synth ... smells like a collab or just a pretty big coincidence.

I just hope if it is a collab, that it's grid based like the ROLI Lightpad Block:

Makes sense and looks fantastic. However, if that's really what shows up, Ableton will regret building so much hype over a product that is sure to piss off Push users.

Why would it piss off Push users? It looks like a cut-down version of Push at a cut-down price. Doesn't seem unfair.

Agreed, it looks VERY cut down. I like it, I don't like the price, I would like it more at about $300, but, it is what it is. I can see people who don't really use the full workflow of the push and don't need so many buttons (keys) will like this. The important part of eight knobs is there.

The buttons definitely look very ROLIesque... and ROLI is also announcing something new on October 8th!

Exactly. A whole lot of hype about something that won't appeal to their most avid users.

Yeah so? Is it so hard to understand that they are making a new group of their "most avid" users with this?

It is as if you are saying to me the owner of some top-tier Chevrolet car model suddenly becomes disappointed because someone is buying a cheaper downstripped different model from the same vendor.

Incredibly silly.
