Studio One 7 Pricing

I am considering Studio One as a replacement for Cakewalk by Bandlab. With version 7 coming out, now is the time to do it.
I want to make sure I understand the two pricing models.
If I pay $179 for Studio One+, I will have access to all Studio One extras. If I don't renew after one year, I will get no further updates but will have a perpetual license to the then current version. Correct?
If I pay $199 for a perpetual license I will have access to all extras. I will get one year of updates. The updates will stop after one year, but I could pay $149 to upgrade to a newer version.
I am not sure why I would not buy the $199 license and then pay $149 thereafter for upgrades. That seems better than paying $179 year after year. Pay $20 more the first year and then $30 less every year thereafter. I must be missing something. The subscription model must include things the perpetual license doesn't.

I think you can also go from the $179 to the $149 and lose the extras. I fairly sure I read that scenario, I'm on Perpetual and that's the way I'm staying, so I don't take 'to' much notice of the rest. If you have a bit more of a look around, maybe at the PreSonus Forums you will find it.

You should give a try Tracktion Waveform 13 free . or buy you a USED Studio one 6 artist version. I think I'm off the Studio One 7 , train now with subscription b.s. plus I don't care about DAW specific instruments and content (bloat) .

The version 7 perpetual license will give you all the extras, and they'll never expire.
What sound do dreams make when they die?

This is the way I read it.jinotsuh wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 1:48 am I think you can also go from the $179 to the $149 and lose the extras. $199 for perpetual does not give you everything StudioOne+ subscription do,
- but then upgrading annually for $149 is really steep
- but voluntarily then if new features you want since licens is perpetual
- you can skip a couple of years
Getting the Plus subscription is giving you access to StudioOne and Plus content
- but it all stops working after a year unless you pay $179 again
EDIT: wrong, Plus content only expire, StudioOne is perpetual
But you have to pay $179 again, and basically pay for StudioOne again
Look here
https://www.presonus.com/en/buy-studio-one-pro.html
Unless they change policy with massive discount campaigns often, like Waves do, I cannot see how this is sustainable at all.
Really steep entry ticket to even start using StudioOne?
- it's almost as arrogant as Avid ProTools were 10 years ago
The freebee huggers had a riot over that Sonar would be payable license again and not free.
I got everything 3rd party in plugins and VST instruments 10 years ago and never looked back. Free to use in any VST compatible daw out there.
- so which daw do what I want the best way?
- no need to look at stock plugins and content at all
- change daw and nothing to relearn regarding what shapes your sound

So I just watched the video and the pricing is very clear - not.
But it seems to come in three prices which all include everything - and you get to keep for ever.
Upgrade from Arist or Pro $149.
Purchase new $199.
Subscribe for one year $179.
Did I miss the mention of a monthly subscription?
And what is the purpose of buying it for $199 if you can get it for $179?

What bothers me a lot, a pro user since V4 is that I pay the same upgrade price as the Artist owners, I should have a difference since I was the owner of the pro license. Maybe $119 or $129.
If you are a new user I think the most logical thing to do is to get the subscription because you get the perpetual license as well.

I was wrong about Annual+ now is perpetual license on StudioOne itself.
- thanks for correcting, I will edit my former post
- but all the Plus extras expire
- as I read that $179 again after a year, you pay again for StudioOne basically
Easier to read on webpage than a video spitting out numbers and options from 3 different people
https://www.presonus.com/en/buy-studio-one-pro.html
"Annual+ plans include a Studio One Pro license (yours to keep) and annual access to all the tools, plug-ins, sound libraries, and more in Studio One Pro+."
Getting perpetual alone, does not give access to any Plus content.
Seems these policies is floating still, and not carved in stone....

Good questions, probably to make you get a taste of the Plus content and continue with $179 after a year.dellboy wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 9:40 am

- as a habit, kind of
- but it's lot of money, I think
Presonus is really shooting in the dark with what they put up so far
- if you already get a perpetual on StudioOne why pay again for just getting updates
If they had a separate Plus-content subscription would make more sense, I think.
- maybe $99 annually or so
- or is this StudioOne+ they drop in there?
If we look at Cyberlink PowerDirector 365
- you get continued software license and access to all plugins and effects for usually $55 constantly on discount
- but it all expires if stop paying then
StudioOne Annual+ subscription $179 annually????
- you can drop all Plus content if not needing and just use StudioOne
Updates on StudioOne is still $149?
- how many bedroom musicians to this constantly
Even Avid ProTools have a free version as entry level.
- ProTools Artist $99 annually, 32 audiotracks, 64 midi tracks
- then a jump to ProTools Studio $289 annually
Cubase Elements is $100.
Seems to me Presonus is targeting professional users alone.
- forgot about introducing at entry level wallets

The website and the new video do not appear to align. The whole thing is a mess. Why should finding out how much a product costs be so confusing? At 0:46 in the video he clearly says that all licences include everything.

It's mystery. I felt first attempt on video I saw a week ago was difficult to follow, so went to webpage.
- no pedagogic price award on that walkthrough
I think there will be a release of entry level product of StudioOne or some daw(Bitwig?).
- but it's sales technique to release most expensive products first
- when that market saturated, they release cheaper products for the bigger market
- so don't confuse customers to go to cheaper versions from start
Seems to be close collaboration Bitwig and StudioOne already with some seamless transfer of projects etc.

You are just paying what is now the usual price to upgrade your pro, Artist owners now have to pay 2 or 3 times what they had to pay before if they want to continue using their daw. maybe think about others rather than making everything about you.Fornicras wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 9:51 am What bothers me a lot, a pro user since V4 is that I pay the same upgrade price as the Artist owners, I should have a difference since I was the owner of the pro license. Mac mini m4 pro, Reaper, too many plugins, Modal Argon8, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.
