Fornicras wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 9:51 am What bothers me a lot, a pro user since V4 is that I pay the same upgrade price as the Artist owners, I should have a difference since I was the owner of the pro license. Maybe $119 or $129.
You are just paying what is now the usual price to upgrade your pro, Artist owners now have to pay 2 or 3 times what they had to pay before if they want to continue using their daw. maybe think about others rather than making everything about you.
Wow really? What corporation are you shilling for? Artist users are NOT paying 2-3 times more to use THEIR DAW. They are using ARTIST. They are NOT paying $149 to keep using ARTIST the crappy cutdown DAW they got for FREE with some piece of Presonus hardware. They are paying the same price I, personally have paid to upgrade every version of PRO since 2. Upgrade pricing USED to be fairly tiered. It cost considerably more in the past to upgrade from ARTIST & PRODUCER than it did from PRO. EXACTLY as it always has with Steinberg DAWS. So these noobs who paid NOTHING for THEIR DAW are getting a HUGE break while decades long users get no break at all. This is the work of Presonus' new corporate money manager owners who care nothing about loyal customers.

So I tell you what. IF I decide to upgrade to 7, (and that's a mighty big IF right now), I won't use my prepetual V6 PRO license to do it. I will use my preptual license for ARTIST V1!!

I think he meant
- for us quite happy with Artist used to pay about $49 for upgrades and support
- now we all are to pay $149 to be up to date, with features we do not need
- Artist version is gone

There was a guy at Cakewalk forum that had a fit over something he could not do in Cakewalk
- he said he got a StudioOne Artist to do what he needed for $99

He did serious scoring for film industry, so obviously Artist version was good enough for him.

When I first tried StudioOne the Artist version I believe did not even support VST plugins, so that was updated it seems.
- so only stock plugins
- so went for Pro for that reason

So very personal exactly what we need, or that we can afford to have headroom for future needs.
- one day a project grows so VCA faders will be welcomed etc

I just cannot believe there will only be Pro version, it does not make sense at all with such a steep start ticket.
- or there will be crossgrades to Pro from Reaper even or similar for $99

What is the "Plus" content that would be lost after one year with the perpetual license (if not doing the $149 upgrade) or lost if not renewing the annual Plus membership? As far as I can tell it is just loops and samples. What about the built-in Studio One FX and instruments- compressors, EQ's, pianos, etc. Are those Plus?

Is there anything else that would become unavailable at the end of one year if not paying any longer?

Well I believe I know how the pricing is going to be, and what you do and don't get with each 'tier' as it were, but it doesn't really bother me, as I have been on Perpetual Pro License since the start of v3 so that's not going to change, Perpetual License for me ($149). As for the add on stuff I own most of it as it is, whatever I don't own I don't want.

I just want it to come on sale, come on, it's been the 9th for 10¾ hours already here :D

Can you elaborate on what you believe we get and don't get with each?

Artist was never free and, in fact, it is exactly the same as Pro - you use the same installer and do exactly the same install but the Artist license doesn't activate a few of the effects and you don't get quite as much useless content as you do with Pro. I've been using it for a couple of years and honestly not noticed the difference from when I was using Pro.
They are paying the same price I, personally have paid to upgrade every version of PRO since 2. Upgrade pricing USED to be fairly tiered. It cost considerably more in the past to upgrade from ARTIST & PRODUCER than it did from PRO.
You are missing the point, Artist upgrades - from Artist 5 to Artist 6, for example - were always cheaper than upgrades to Pro. Now, without Artist, we'll all be forced to pay $149 if we want to upgrade, just like someone with a Pro license yet, for me at least, I won't get anything I will likely want to use for the extra money I will have to pay.
So these noobs who paid NOTHING for THEIR DAW are getting a HUGE break while decades long users get no break at all.
Again, Artist was never free. From memory, I think it was around two-thirds of the price of Pro, as were the upgrades. OTOH, if you're a Pro user, you bought into $149 upgrades from the start, so nothing has changed for you.

Note! For european and non-US customers

Local taxes apply, so europeans at least get an extra 20-25% tax on prices as well.
- in sweden we get extra 25% on $149.99 or $179.99

So calculating costs that matters....

Apparently you can also buy a 6 month sub for $99.99 and it comes with a perpetual license too, but obviously you don't get a full year of updates but I guess if you don't mind that it's a great deal to get on the 7 train and any bugs will at least be sorted in 6 months time you'd hope

Typical Bones. Arrogant & ignorant.
Artist was never free
Bullsh#t. Artist shipped free with Presonus interfaces for years. I used to work for Presonus. And you? This was, in fact, written by my former boss Alex Tinsley and is posted on Presonus' Q & A:
If you purchase an AudioBox USB (or any audio recording product) from PreSonus and you bought it from a retailer, in a store or from an online retailer as a new product and you are the first owner of the product. Yes you get a free installation of Studio One 3 Artist with it.

It seems that customers can be easily fooled into thinking something was free
- you bought some hardware
- so they baked the cost of bundled software into that price
- sometimes they have own products they provide, sometimes 3rd party they licensed

So no, it was not free.
- but works on some customers it seems to think it was
- and why they do it

Some consumer legislation in some contries does not allow to call something "free" in this way, they must say "without any extra cost".

That's the way I see it....having had my software bundled with some Taiwan made hardware long ago.

Sweetwater probably took it down temporarily to fix the mistake in the description because the six-month subscription was not supposed to include a perpetual license.

Thomann Music has the six-month subscription for $90:

Best Service appears to have the best pricing I've been able to find so far for S1 7 perpetual license, upgrade, crossgrade, as well as Studio One Pro 7 with 12M Pro+. I'm still on the fence whether to sit this one out for a bit or go with S1 7 with 12M Pro+. Nuendo 13 is my primary DAW and I also mess around with Live 12 and Bitwig once in a while.

*** At this low price I'm seriously thinking about picking up S1 7 with 12M Pro+ and just hold off from registering the license with Presonus until I'm ready to spend some serious time to play around with it.

And that's just your opinion. Not the actual facts.

If you don't see the value in, need or want the FREE software you can always buy the unit used and save that imagined "extra cost". As I said, I worked for Presonus. The FREE software was not included to add "extra cost" to the hardware. The whole point of including the FREE software was to introduce new users to Studio One and, hopefully, convince them to spend MORE money in order to upgrade to higher tiers of the program.
