What if you want to upgrade your machine, does that license allow you to disable the machine its on so it works on the "new" machine ? Just changing drives on my current rig made a load of my licenses stop working even though I cloned the drive instead of fresh install and I had to reauthorise them as a "new" machine and deauthorise the "old" machine where it was possible

Hmm... I'm not sure. I have needed to deauthorize/reauthorize only once with my S1 Pro license (I've been fortunate enough to be able to use the same PC for many years and have run S1 4, 5, and 6 on it so far).Digivolt wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 5:03 pmWhat if you want to upgrade your machine, does that license allow you to disable the machine its on so it works on the "new" machine ? If I buy a perpetual licence today, will updates end in exactly 12 months?
I'm confused because the keynote video alleges you get the rest of 2024 and all updates through 2025. Or perhaps I misunderstood.

My understanding: from the day you activate the license in your account exactly 12 months. So e.g. from October 14th (tomorrow) until October 13th 2025.J Veronica wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 7:29 am If I buy a perpetual licence today, will updates end in exactly 12 months?

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe in the keynote video they meant S6 purchases after 1st August still get a year from Oct 9th.Crossinger wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 8:04 amMy understanding: from the day you activate the license in your account exactly 12 months. That makes the one-year period different and unique for everyone and permits one to delay its start almost indefinitely. I wonder how the cut-off of one year of free updates would be enforced by PreSonus.Crossinger wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 8:04 am My understanding: from the day you activate the license in your account exactly 12 months. Bitwig just has the date you activated your licence and end date in your account. Presonus will need to do the same I guess.tonedef71 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 9:37 amThat makes the one-year period different and unique for everyone and permits one to delay its start almost indefinitely. I usually buy my Studio One upgrades from Zzounds. I have great credit with them, and just make payments. But, it looks like Presonus no longer allows them to sell the licenses for Studio One.

If one manages to acquire the latest updated Studio One installer file after their year of free updates has expired, does the installer fail to run, or would the updated Studio One executable fail to run on a machine whose key is not associated with a renewed license??? Or does it continue to work except that the audio drops out every two minutes??

It will at least phone home on first install to check whether you should have access and if not I imagine it will either revert to a trial or flat out block you from using it. Not really any different than if you owned 5 and obtained the installer for 6 except that the check is more granular.tonedef71 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 3:25 pmIf one manages to acquire the latest updated Studio One installer file after their year of free updates has expired, does the installer fail to run, or would the updated Studio One executable fail to run on a machine whose key is not associated with a renewed license??? I think it just works off of a ticking timebomb daily countdown to expiration (the Support Valid Until date):Greenstorm33 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 5:59 pm Not really any different than if you owned 5 and obtained the installer for 6 except that the check is more granular.
Then if you purchase another year of support, perhaps you get another key, the Support Valid Until date updates when you re-register (with a new key?).
Question is, does the Studio One software phone home to check your eligibility for updates, or does it simply consult some data encrypted somewhere on your machine?
