How much money have you spent on plugins?

I think one of the reasons it has been a bit of a minefield is that there are so many types and flavours of plug ins and tools. On top of that there have been continuous improvements in these tools over the years. So there has always been something better available to buy.
I do think that the rate of improvement has slowed somewhat to more incremental gains, requiring higher levels of programming, maths and dsp skills to create.
The market is definitely becoming saturated below the very top tier, the deals and pricing is insanely low on many great tools. This is great for musicians, maybe less so for people making tools.
Two areas that do seem to be improving are:
Better thought out combinations of tools/new takes on things that add a creative angle
Better and novel interfaces that make things easier to use.

A lot! But mostly always on sale and over the course of 25 years (probably more but if we count Hardware, it goes back to the early 70's and the cost... ).
I think I'm done except for the update's fees when necessary.
I'm amazed about FL 2024 (what an incredible tool), and that means no more Update Costs for my DAW

Way too much in the past (thousands of euros). Nowadays not so much anymore. The plugin market is beyond saturated, too much variations on the same thing, too much crap being released.

Too much here, too. In the last two years, I got Fabfilter plugins which are expensive but reduced the total costs for plugins a lot because I am using them for nearly everything.
Also, I got the all plugins edition of FL and use it as a closed system for composing and production. So no synths any more. Then Reaper and Voxengo for mixing and recording, so it all has become way cheaper. I just said goodbye to pseudo subscription things, marketing for new and shiny stuff and new EQ plugins every month.
Back to the basics.

Too much. If I only could go back in time and whip my fingers every time I did a purchase.

No more than a few thousand and I have most of what I want now. A good amount of them especially synth instruments like Analog Lab or Serum for example gets used a lot, but with effect plugins, some are a staple, others are used occasionally.

At this point I’ve spent less on software than on hardware. Hooray?

Never calculated whole summ. Actually, in some global sense i think spending on software this is perhaps the most painless and no regretable spending possible, directed at yourself personally. It doesn’t ask for space, and it won’t puzzle the strangers around me about where to put all this when i go into another life form.
Rather, i regret that bought some not necessary extra hardware at one time.
