"After the pandemic decimated dancefloors worldwide, electronic music seeks a new way forward."
Interesting article
https://pitchfork.com/features/article/ ... o-reality/
leading contender for "next" is meme genres like "hit em"...5/4 time signature 212 bpm
apparently one of the contenders for next is baile funk outta Brazil...which has been around forever outside mainstream and is constantly morphing...its latest incarnation face being
which is funny because I kinda was surprised Venezuela raptor house never blew up after this cosign from buraka som sistema
apparently it's all being lumped together as "latin club"
article mentions singeli from tanzania...bpms up to 300!...back when it was called bongo flava, I saw these guys live in unguja...there were european promoters there investigating the scene wanting to promote it as "the trance of africa" lol.
I never thought that would work...but here we are over 10 yrs later and voila lol
its all very sparse and vocal chop driven...rudimentary, formulaic, and hypnotic...so the "next" is a return to trance?...with inclusion of the non european varieties?...theta wave inducing, surreal, trippy escapism?

This is the guy who popularised (created?) the genre. Pretty good tune and sounds really different. Came out on Warp Records!bermudagold wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 3:18 pmI remember kwaito had sort of a big moment back in the day...post ur favorite example of "shangaan electro"

nice...has that hypnotism that most high bpm styles with a heartbeat cadence induce...kick on every beat of the measure almost makes it classical in an edm context...another take on "four to the floor"...what elements do you think make it coalesce as a style and make it stand out as sounding different?Bunny_boy wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:18 pmThis is the guy who popularised (created?) the genre. Well, if you want non four-to-to-the-floor stuff...bermudagold wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:31 pmnice...has that hypnotism that most high bpm styles with a heartbeat cadence induce...kick on every beat of the measure almost makes it classical in an edm context...another take on "four to the floor"...what elements do you think make it coalesce as a style and make it stand out as sounding different?Bunny_boy wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:18 pmThis is the guy who popularised (created?) the genre. I wasn't saying that made it problematic or as a strike against it...jus generally curious how sounds coalesce and become cohesive where people begin to regard it as its own style or genreBunny_boy wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:43 pmWell, if you want non four-to-to-the-floor stuff...bermudagold wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:31 pmnice...has that hypnotism that most high bpm styles with a heartbeat cadence induce...kick on every beat of the measure almost makes it classical in an edm context...another take on "four to the floor"...what elements do you think make it coalesce as a style and make it stand out as sounding different?Bunny_boy wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:18 pmThis is the guy who popularised (created?) the genre. The article(s) said that the dream genre inspired a real actual "hit em" 5/4 style though.Bunny_boy wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 11:28 amHowever Hit 'Em comes from a dream Drew from Matmos had while the others are actual forms of musicmjolnir wrote: Tue Oct 15, 2024 4:56 am granted i'm a musical snob, but that all seems bogus to my ears except for the "hit 'em", which i kinda like. thanks for that.
