stereo to mono

I have a couple of effects mono to stereo, but I'd like an effect that makes my stereo input mono. The original recording is 2 mics stereo.
For now, I set stereo width to 0% with centre panning, but that's not the same as mono, or is it?

Yes it is, it collapses your two channels l + r (sums them) into mono. So you lose everything in the side channel. I.e it's destructive.

Your method will work fine. Set 0% width and pan as desired, or pick either the L or R channel and discard the other. That's pretty much it.
