Recirculate is getting mentioned a lot. Is it that good and why ?

Post

Recirculate just sounds nice. lots under the hood but easy to dial things in. it’s not an emulation so it stands out a little. the biggest criticism i’ve heard it that it’s cpu heavy but that’s never been an issue from my experiences

Post

To echo the previous sentiment - Recirculate has a great sound, and allows for some substantial tone and stereo shaping. The main feature is the ability to offset the first tap for somewhat more precise groove placement - somewhere between a traditional multitap and standard delay. There is also a granular delay mode but frankly I’m feeling TAL G-Berb does a better job at the granular delay, especially since grains can be tuned.

Post

It might be my skill issue of not diving deep enough, but why does Timeless feel like it's more complicated than it needs to be? I like how most of Fabfilter plugins are easy to use and elegant, but something about Timeless UX doesn't click with me, it seems to require quite few extra steps.

I like the delay that Gforce synths OB-X and OB-1 have, and I'm thinking maybe Valhalla Delay will get me there quickest, it seems to be easiest to setup (just copy the delay values from synth preset straight to valhalla d.Lay :hihi:)

Post

I like timeless and once you know what’s up it’s fast to use but yeah; it’s not as immediate as some of their other tools.

Post

I agree. Usually fabfilter is on point with their plugins. But timeless 3 ruined that for me. Like above poster said, it feels overly complicated, takes a long time to get where I need it to be. When it comes to delay plugins, I just want simple. Timeless just has too many knobs nd buttons, and bells and whistles.

Trailbender by Signal Perspective is worth checking out (it's free).

I like it's simple, clear, easy to read GUI (with plenty of controls) very much. :tu:

For the most basic, clean, digital delay:

KHS Delay - I use this a lot in game sound production for my job. In Snap Heap you can do some really cool things with it.

For basic with analogue flavor (often vocals):

Echoboy JR.

For creativity and everything else:

Echoboy and Primal Tap (both within the Effectrack for further control)

I also own Replika XT (which i do like), Valhalla Delay and Recirculate. I just find Echoboy always sits better in the mix for me and is faster for me to work with. Plus i really like its rhythmic section. Rarely use Valhalla Delay or Recirculate.

I'm trying, but it seems someone drew all over the screenshot!

I really like Dubstation by Audio Damage ... it's a very simple, great sounding, bucket brigade delay: https://www.audiodamage.com/pages/free-and-legacy

Dubstation 2 is still a paid for plug-in (https://www.audiodamage.com/collections ... bstation-2) The free legacy is for Dubstation (1). Still killer sounding either way!

Post

in 2024 I'm using (in no particular order):

Arturia: Brigade

U-he: Colourcopy, MFM2. and Satin

Newfangled Audio: Recirculate (good offset options)

Fuse Audio Labs: Bucket-500

Pulsar Modular: Lunar Landing

Aqusmatic: Dedalus

GSI: Echo B2

Bitwig: Delay+ (able to insert FX in the loopback with all of Bitwig's modulation options to boot. It's like the ultimate version of Blucat/Klevgrand offerings that do something similar-ish.)

Sixthsample Deelay (one of the few delays with a useable reverse algorithm, and it's free!)

Mountainroad DSP: Lumina Delay (this is more like penciling in custom repeats than a traditional delay)

Eventide: Blackhole Immersive (no, really. crank the size down to -6 thru -10, set the pre-delay, loop, feedback and cross feedback accordingly, crank up the modulation depth and rate a bit, and it's quite beautiful.)

I used to swear by Valhalla, but over the past four-ish years I absolutely feel differently about it. I dunno, it's a lot of little intricacies with Valhalla that all add up to it sounding flat and lacking spatial depth and character. There are still some things I find it useful for, but it's not echoes.

I'll give a special shoutout to Autochroma, which is technically a granular but can be set up to do some neat delay tricks, particularly if you're looking for a nice real time reverse phrase repeater.

Cheers
