OK, thanks! I think I could improve this.
I managed to recreate a similar situation on Windows when I made the window several screens wide. So I am sure it will work better.

Thanks!

Hey Atilla, yea, the midi issue I had, well, for one, thanks.. lol, I completely forget about the middle C setting. So the VST's are working correctly and all. However, I still can't re-produce this song in RC. I mean, well, yea, all the midi I used in the DAW works fine in RC, but, the issue is sample timing.

I am using strumming from the VST, but, it starts way to late and isn't quite in time. I can adjust it in the VST, but, since there is no way to offset the amount in RC, it just can't be done, for now.
RC needs the ability to read the sample earlier, ahead of the beats.

(I have work arounds that I can use, like rendering as audio, etc.. You could use the midi as a visual, just don't play it)

I know I said I would do a video and all, but, all I can do in the video is show how it isn't working.. I kind of don't want to do a video like that.. but, lol, I am dying to show off this song.. (several months ago I bought a lap steel guitar and I used it very sparingly (lol) in this ..) Yea, I don't really play slide that well.. hehe

I also added 3 new VST's to my collection, all Ample Sound stuff, and now RC is really rocking my guitar stuff.. hehe, pun intended, again.

I know a lot of people are looking forward to the XML stuff, but, I agree, it is probably the worst possible way to represent music in text form. Kind of why I never really bothered with it my self. (JSON is way better, but, no one uses it). I totally understand if this stalls in dev with you.. good luck..

but, in any case.. still a wow with the new stuff in RC.. big thanks from me and I am sure everyone.

Yea, this is what I wanted to show in the video.. this is the rendered DAW version, the RC version would be a little different..

Great song, BluGenes! I love the sound of your new guitar!

You could have used the "Delay Notes" variation on the track, which allows negative delay.

RapidComposer v5.4b5 is available!

Improvements:
  • Split phrases at line/part boundaries added to timeline inspector with keyboard shortcut
  • Improved phrase renaming: use special tokens {chords}, {chordsr}, {chordst}, {line}, {part} when renaming multiple phrases
  • A new "info" button explains the usable tokens when renaming phrases or tracks
  • The browser area has a sensible maximum width to prevent bad UI layout

Hello BluGenes - I agree with Attila, great new guitar sounds.! Thanks for sharing your latest song - lovely parts and melodies weaving inside there... ;-)

Did you compose the parts and phrases in RC first, then output each as audio and then import to DAW to mix.? Finally, you played in a 'live' solo guitar over the top.? Just curious...

Hi Attila, regarding the browser width.New beta 5 . It worked once (I managed to set the desired width using the adjusting arrows on the edge of the program field, but after rebooting everything stopped working and the arrows and the abnormal width returned again.

Post

It is interesting that you can make it even wider with arrows, but it does not work to make it smaller.

I composed everything in the DAW. I was going to use that in RC, but, had an issue, so I couldn't.
I started with the acoustic, then bass, then keys, and organ, then drums.. I specifically used the lead guitar part so that the ending notes would be the starting notes for the lap steel.

Basically, it became a backing track for the lap steel stuff, which was recorded live.

I'll try that delay notes and see if that can work.. thanks Atilla.. and the Butler!

Attila, I will also add that often unexpectedly (as well as the arrows for adjusting the browser width) they stop working, inspectors and browsers freeze (they do not respond to mouse control). I am talking about the plugin. In the standalone version everything is fine.

Path from Song progression to Atomic Chord Progressions #1 of 2

Create the composition from the Song progressions

RC - ACP Workflow 01.jpg

Use keyboard shortcut 'E' to set up the structure.

Right-click on the timeline header to bring up the phrase split options.

RC - ACP Workflow 05.jpg

Split into shorter phrases as desired (by Lines in this case)

New, short, phrases now show as "Rendered".

RC - ACP Workflow 06.jpg

Select them all (click on one, then do Ctrl-A)

Path from Song progression to Atomic Chord Progressions #2 of 2

Use Shift-E to export all the selected, named phrases as MIDI files.

RC - ACP Workflow 10.jpg

Et Voila! Atomic Chord Progression MIDI files - ready for use in your DAW, or for re-use in RC.

RC - ACP Workflow 11.jpg

You may then choose to delete the identically named files if you wish. ( (1), (2), etc.)

In the case of this exact demonstrated path, the identically named files generally are really duplicates

RC - ACP Workflow 12.jpg

but depending on your own entire path/workflow, they may not be.

To accumulate your new Atomic Chord Progressions (ACPs) in RC, just drop them on the Progression Browser, being sure to set the Group where you want them to land.

RC - ACP Workflow 13.jpg
RC - ACP Workflow 14.jpg

Keep in mind that if you drag one of these MIDI files back into RC, it will arrive as an Absolute, not Relative, phrase. If you want to have that phrase track chord changes going forward, you will have to change it to Relative at the point of use.

Major thanks to Attila for the powerful new chord progression processing capabilities now available in Rapid Composer! :tu:

The above is a guide, and a reference for further discussion. Enjoy!

Ok... thanks for the info.! I was puzzling myself with how you might have got all the backing from RC to start out with...

The lap steel is a great sound and lovely choice/playing here.! Well done.. :tu:

I agree, sounds great!

FWIW, this part of the original post did not appear in Firefox. I had to go to Edge to see it.

Also, just a note, the one thing I really needed I didn't have when NOT using RC was the master track visualization. I used region markers in the DAW to represent the chords.. was very tedious to do.. lol, yea, funny how you miss using the little things like that..
