Half off alert.
I was holding off on upgrading from 6 to 7 and saw NI is marking off a little bit for Black Friday already. I didn't expect half off because it's new.
*However*
Guitar Center currently has half off for Pro, Upgrade, and Update.
I just picked up and installed the update for 50 bucks.

So cool :tu:

I've a full GR6 license to sell if anyone wants a cheap upgrade path, £15?

GR7 is a great kit. I've used it this year to much enjoyment and good tone. For a long time there you struggled to get competitive tone with Guitar Rig. I'm still bummed GR6 promises did not come true, but it feels they have really revived the product between the gear that did trickle in with 6 and the stuff they've added with 7. Still has a real problem of the old amp models being ehhh, and I have to say, having used Amplitube Tonex and NAM now I am really not impressed with the slow pace of ICM modeling, I can crank out a bunch of models per day if I want and I don't have NI manpower or money  Get some of those old amps converted from the old way to the new hotness and this ship will sail boldly on for time to come. The effects complement has gotten really outstanding over the years, and it always had a great workflow that has improved in 7 with a more navigable visualization of the signal path.

i dont use it for guitars, but after trying out many multi effect plugins on the market, i chose guitar rig as my go to, because the effects sound really well and control is simple...

got it for 50eur 2nd hand.

It's a completely different method with completely different outcomes.

I do not like the GIGANTIC UI.

I simultaneously see your point and think I probably wasn't being very fair there, a snapshot vs. a range of behaviors, but I also still think the pace of adding ICM gear has been pretty glacial compared to how they pitched it initially (though, not dead, and I am grateful for that as I worried it might be in the Francisco Partners era ... Not sure if it's still going, though, last update was in January 2024) and it remains a competitive disadvantage versus the broader field of modeling software today.

that was my problem in the beginning too, but then found out you can minimize the preset- and the signal-flow section to make it look like this (13" macbook screen, you can access all components in that view):

I agree 100%....

The new ICM models in GR7 balanced out what was provided in GR6...

They cover all the bases and they sound funking great !

The older models pale into insignificance compared to the ICM stuff...

And like a few peeps have said,ICM is a completely different process,so you just can't feed the old code in and hope to get a similar response....

Unfortunately,Dr Julien Parker who was responsible for a lot of the smart ideas that were starting to come through at NI,(including the ICM modelling),is no longer at NI,so it will be interesting to see what impact that will have....

Everything that he was involved with was a winner in my books...including GR7
No auto tune...

I really wish GR7 had an option to "hide legacy gear" - I have absolutely zero interest in the pre-ICM models and it's a royal PITA having to try to remember which ones are and which aren't ICM; especially with the partly quite similar and non-descriptive fantasy-names.

What host is that? The GUI looks marvelously clean&tidy.

You can pin your components to the top of the component browser list. That's one way around it and how I use it.

Ah, that's a good advice - thanks!

its logic...i customized it to look as minimalistic as possible! good part of the clean impression comes from the hidden grid lines (possible via shortcut) imo, which makes it feel even more like a blank canvas. i also can hide the control bar via shortcut and turn off snap to grid and completely forget about bpm and move around audio clips freely.. makes it feel really 'unmathematical' and playful.
