I'm sooo sick of new fx plugins!!!! Everytime there is an announcement of a new fx thing.. it's always vintage this, vintage that, analog this, analog that. Everything has been done to death! The world DOES NOT need another analog delay, there are hundreds already out there.. sounding IDENTICAL. Same goes for flangers, choruses, and the list goes on. Instead of giving us boring stuff like that.. i want developers to actually USE their brain and put it to work. How about coming up with something ORIGINAL??? And by original.. i dont mean something that combines delay with reverb and flanger into 1 thing. I mean an effect that can do NEW and exciting things that we havent heard before.
Geting back to the analog thing.. have u noticed that most analog plugins can simply be replaced/eliminated with good use of EQ?? ie. want an analog fat sounding song? well.. how about boost the bass a little, reduce the treble a little and add some noise into the song?? voila u got analog sound.. no need for a plugin. Same goes for all other vintage fx types.. urgh enough.. i'm even sick of talking about this

There's all kinds of unconventional stuff out there as well though... you don't even have to dig too deep for it.

well when you think about it, there is only so many things you can do to sound:
if you can think of a new way to change it, then you have my permission to code a plug in for it. I have a feeling that most "new" plugins will put a new spin on 1 or more "vintage analog" plugins....

whoa.. arrogance overload.. so far i've yet to see an intelligent reply to my post. Telling me to go F#@$ myself? what kind of lowlife are you? You dont even know who i am and you're putting me down? get a life dude. more importantly, try and get laid.. if for nothing else just to get rid of those zits, on your eyelids.
Oh, and i stand by my argument.. there is enough bullshit analog emulation out there.. we need NEW fx types to keep moving forward. It's common sense.

There are some new fx besides analog fx already out.

S_A_P's got it pretty much spot on. Pretty much all the 'weird' plugins out there are based in some part on analog designs.
Oh, and as for arrogance overload, isn't telling developers to use their brain ever so slightly arrogant?
Grab a copy of Reaktor or Synthedit and get revolutionizing the effects industry, whydon'tcha?

So what about all the granulators, timestretchers, resamplers, buffer manglers, spectral/FFT stuff, convoluters, etc? Show us the analogue equivalent of things like CrusherX, Deconstructor, Shapee, etc... not to mention the potential of Max/MSP, CSound, Reaktor and the like... seems to me there's plenty of forward-thinking stuff out there, so I'm not going to lose sleep just because some other folks want another vintage compressor.

hehe, have you ever heard sounds from an analog gear ! Its not just the lack/smear of high frequency in some tape machines but "warmth" is attributed to the differences in the way tubes and transistors respond to overload signals, hence the unlinear magic.

mark77 quoth I'm sooo sick of new fx plugins!!!!
Im not. Thanks for sharing.

Nope. Sometimes, but not every time.
Everything has been done to death!
Nope. For example, I think spectral processing and phase vocoding are grossly underexplored. And granular processing has barely made a mark on the mainstream.
So no, I disagree, strongly.
The world DOES NOT need another analog delay, there are hundreds already out there.. sounding IDENTICAL.
Well, firstly, there arent hundreds. There are probably far more digital delays since they're far easier to make. Authentic analog modelling is hard.
And no, they dont sound identical, any more than all real analog delays sound identical.
Same goes for flangers, choruses, and the list goes on.
Absolutely nonsense, there. In my opinion, very few software flangers or phasers sound similar, let alone identical
Instead of giving us boring stuff like that.. i want developers to actually USE their brain and put it to work.
That's not a very nice thing to say. Your assumption that analogue emulations are being made because developers arent thinking is a bit presumptious, not to mention unreflective of the facts. I guess you haven't really checked out what developers are doing quite enough.
Perhaps you should have a look at Voxengo, or Delaydots.
How about coming up with something ORIGINAL???
How about you come up with one single original idea?
You could even implement it in Reaktor or somesuch. Have you looked at Reaktor? There's lots of original developers using it.
And by original.. i dont mean something that combines delay with reverb and flanger into 1 thing. I mean an effect that can do NEW and exciting things that we havent heard before.
Spectral processing
Convolution
Granular
You trying to chracterise these as being stuff we've heard to death? Where, exactly?
Im not. Thanks for sharing.

An idiot on Set Theory:

The vast majority of the stuff we consider to be 'forward thinking' was theorised/realised years and years ago. Xenakis was doing granulation by slicing tape in the 50s, Fourier died over 150 years ago, and convolution and all that malarkey was being done in the 80s on the some of the first computers inside the labs of the electroacoustic pioneers.
While it's comletely true that increasing computer power is allowing us to do all this stuff in real time without a PhD in extreme cleverness, I genuinely think there are very few ways left in which to mangle audio that haven't already been theorised and are just waiting for increases in CPU power to enable them.
One notable exception I can think of is DFX's Geometer plugin. Totally original thinking!
