They're not really "free plugins" the way free plugins are from every other developer. They exist only as a means of railroading unsuspecting plugin hunters into buying a paid bundle. The install manager exists for the same reason, too.
Ridiculous.
Btw, this is a free post. Keep it.

planetearth wrote: Sat Nov 02, 2024 3:05 pm @BrokenTrance, which plug-ins have you found with a GUI other than the stock Melda one? I just opened MSpectralDelay and saw the middle section with a...um...quite obtrusive GUI for about 70% of the image. The other 30% is the stock blue, rectangular stuff. It is not very aesthetically pleasing, and it looks like one GUI was simply grafted onto another. It also doesn't even display the same parameters the way the old version did. I don't even know where some are now, which kind of screws up the workflow.

Yeah it is true the gui shows to old style on the sides, but i like this a little real like gui in the middle better then the all generic gui.

The old GUI is not pretty, but it works and looks neutral. As I was demoing the MSoundfactory I was shocked by cheesy looks of some libraries with the new GUI. It's not funny

Melda definitely have their own *ahem* unique way of doing things. I bought the bundle licence in a sale to get rid of the nag notice and be able to change the GUI. Didnt mind that.

The piano I've heard good stuff about, so bought it in a sale. The installation was a nightmare, to the point where I've kind of written-off the purchase and won't be buying any more MSoundFactory libraries. I did get it working, but I would hate to have to ever reinstall it or other libraries. Shame really.

I find the Melda stuff mostly very good sounding, flexible and very resource efficient...

I had my problems with their GUI myself but meanwhile I find the "Argon" style not too bad looking even without a more fancy GUI:

That's crazy, all this time I never realised those GUI style options existed. :tu:
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I like the dark one. Sound Factory stuff looks like old Jack Dark stuff, but G rated.

That dark theme is a certain improvement over the default "Murky Blue-ish" theme many of their plugins use.

They say you can “extend” the features of the Free Bundle… for a price. Not so “free” anymore. Everyone else just gives you free plugins with no strings attached. Compare Melda “free” plugins to Kilohearts. World of difference there.

Life’s too short and actual free plugins are too numerous to waste your time with Melda.
Each to their own. Not really seeing how Melda cripples their free stuff.

The idea of extending functionality for a price is...well, totally normal. Melda is a business and of course trying to make money.

I think you're splitting hairs tbh.

I'd have less of a problem with it if they didn't literally call it the "MFreeFXBundle" then nag you non-stop until you buy it. It's deceptive at the very least. That really doesn't seem like splitting hairs to me.

As a Melda fan who has always hoped that they would get a modern redesign, the new graphics are just the worst and already look dated IMO. Too bad.

I've had absolutely zero trouble not purchasing these plugins despite the "non stop" nagging. Which, tbc, is a pretty small section of text on the screen.

It's like someone offers to give you $100 in $20 notes and you're pissed at having to deal with all that paper. These plugins are not free in the precise way you want them to be free. This is an absolutely breathtaking level of entitlement.

Not only is there a persistent nag on the "free" plugins, but they are also significantly limited/crippled unless you buy them. And they are STILL called "MFreeFXBundle" even after you pay money for them.

I bought the MDrumLeveler and the MAutoAlign. Works as well as the Sound Radix one and I paid around 25$ for each one. Exceptional.

The murky blue reminds me too much of Windows 98. There are too many good free (and paid) plugs not to use them just for aesthetic reasons. It's about can you create the sound you want.
