'Search Bar' - behaviour in Browsers and suggestions.

Hi Attila

1. Could you check how the 'Search Bar' is working in the File browser please.? For example, type in 'Ambient' and press Enter. Here, no results are returned... Try 'RCClick' and again nothing returns (it is there of course, in the Soundfonts folder.!).

'Scales' - works, as it returns the main folder result itself
'Contributed' - doesn't, maybe because it is a child folder (inside CustomPhrases folder).?
'Pop' - doesn't, again because it is a child folder inside 'Contributed' folder, when you are searching the 'Rhy' (rhythm) browser for example

Perhaps I don't fully understand this functionality... Is this how its supposed to work.? Maybe one has to choose the right folder you want to search first, then run the search term you're looking for, within that folder alone.?

2. Should the magnifying glass icon Tooltip say 'Disable Search Bar' when the bar is already enabled.? Or, maybe easier to just change it to say 'Enable/Disable Search Bar' to cover both.?

3. Is there a way to clear 'Recent Entries' (individually or all at once) from the drop-down list at right-hand side of search bar.?

4. Can there be an 'X' button in the search bar itself to clear the entry, close the search bar and return to default view.? Instead, seems you have to highlight search text, backspace/delete to clear, press Enter to return to default view, then click on search icon button to close the search bar...

If you just use the icon to close the search bar with a text string still valid, then the bar closes but text is held and thus the default view of the browser is not returned... There may be legitimate reasons for this current behaviour (that escapes me), and so for convenience sake is why I ask for additional function of an 'X' button in the search bar itself, that clears text, closes bar and returns browser to default view. That would be nice.

TIA
Bob

Hi Bob,

yes, you are right, searching does not work well in the file browser. The reason is that subfolders are scanned on demand. By default the browser has no knowledge about files in the folders, unless you open them. To be able to search in subfolders, all the files and folders should be scanned.
I have fixed all your reported issues, a new beta version is being uploaded...

Thanks,

Wow.! Thank you for your attention and quick turnaround on this - wasn't expecting all that within one day.!! Looking good...

I see the beta release there now; I can't install right away, as I'm distracted on other work. Back soon... :D

Hello Attila - just been looking at v5.4.1 update, and the new browser Search Bar improvements... Much better than before, thanks.!

Though, all seems good for the 'File Browser' - search returns opened folders with instances of targets revealed, as expected. But with the other browsers, for me here, search returns only the (closed) folders/directories that contain the target text...

Is this intended or a limitation perhaps.? Or maybe just me.?

Hi Bob,

I reply in this topic too:

I know about this, but I removed this functionality (opening all folders) in the last minute because it would have probably caused new issues which I did not want.
Please press the 'extend all' button above the list to open all folders.
(For other than the file browser, these folders are virtual, not real entries.)

Thanks!

Thanks for the browser updates.

Any idea when we'll be able to have keyboard functions with the browser? Arrow navigation, enter, shortcut for editing browser phrases?
