i mean, tommy iomi severed one of his fingers
and replaced his fingertip with something that s do-it-yourself.
how bad can fingertip protectors be?

For the Europeans: Thomann is selling the Alpha 2502n switch for $3.62. This is the switch Ibanez uses to get 5 incredibly useful sounds out of a dual humbucker guitar. The only tricky thing about it is both pickups need to be bridge positions for the split position to be hum canceling:

Did some modding this weekend:
1. Installed the 2502n. Neck pickup sounded bad in parallel (too weak) so I reversed it to make the bridge be the parallel position. Sounds phenomenal.
2. Put the middle pickup on its own volume pot so I can swell into the bridge from the softer position, Carlos Santana-style
3. Installed a PBT (Passive Bass Treble) into my 3 x P-90 guitar. Now it can do Strat sounds.
Not bad for $4 worth of parts!

This guild polara that sweetwater is giving away looks pretty cool for $500. The bat wing cut is not my fav, but this ones not overly rounded so I don't mind it too much. Tho it could just be the cool
black paint job...
*Hmm I thought they were giving one away, but I can't find the email now. They do have a giveaway
if you make a wish list up until the 31st, maybe that was it.

I played my aria Lp copy through an Orange rockerverb 30 amp at the weekend.
It sounded incredible, a magic combination of guitar an amp. It’s going for $750 used.
My heads doing all kinds of calculations on how to justify this purchase as I am kinda broke atm (!) and definitely don’t need another amp
But that tone tho. It does jangly indie AND filthy dirty hairy rock .. both!
I played Mr Brightside riff it sounded amaze-balls.
I play Zep riffs also amaze balls. Wow.
“ but if I sell this , and this and this , then borrow from so and so .. layby and downpaymebts..
It could be THE ONE must have it

Finally purchased the Line6 Powercab 112+ for my partner's Line6 Helix to complete the deal, and she's playing her Fender Strat and Alvarez electric/acoustic on it now. It sounds better (and louder, 250 watt 12") than I thought it would, and it can produce a good range of tones once you get your pedals and cab+amp sims connected. We are using the L6 link cable so the Helix knows the 112+ is there and what cab or IR it is using and can put it in routing. Im glad I paid the extra money for the plus model because the integration is nice!
For a power amp, its loud and very clean. Surprising low noise floor even on my bad house power. Good stuff, and a birthday gift for the partner. Happy new gear day and whatnot, lol.

In the market for a telecaster, ideally a US one, and noticed a new one from Andertons at the top end of my price range but turned out they are looking to charge £1500 for a Mexican made tele just because it’s branded as 60 years of Andertons. Do people really get that attached to a guitar store they’ll pay through the nose for their branded products? Think it’d put me off more than anything and I quite like the store.

It looks like the Strats have sold out. Expensive for a MIM.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 11:49 pm In the market for a telecaster, ideally a US one, and noticed a new one from Andertons at the top end of my price range but turned out they are looking to charge £1500 for a Mexican made tele just because it’s branded as 60 years of Andertons. Nice setup and features tbf but at the end of the day if you come to flog it in a few years people will just see MX on the back of the headstock and you’ll never get anything like your money back.

I took a while cleaning up and tweaking my Player Jaguar (turns out it was made in 2022; no idea how previous owner got it this grotty in two years...) I've put a Dimarzio Cruiser Bridge pickup in the neck position and kept the stock Shawbucker in the bridge, but rewired the coil tap to a series/parallel switch to get noise-cancelling.
Lately I've been playing around with a Fuzz Face-derived pedal and noticed that in parallel setting things get significantly louder and brighter than in serial. The old transistor input impedance voodoo at work... The (series) cruiser sounds somewhere in between; a bit darker but not totally lost.
I think I get why doom kids like P90s now! And would certainly consider ensuring all humbucking guitars have some kind of low-impedence configuration to play nicely with low-input-impedence pedals.

FWIW, that guitar is a perfect candidate for the 2502n switch. Then rewire the coil tap as a phase reverse and dig what that does to the Fuzz Face.imrae wrote: Wed Nov 06, 2024 9:34 am On a related note:

Ooh, great point. I had initially dismissed the idea as a) a bit unsure about how to handle the neck pickup polarity issue, and b) didn't think it would be simple to add phase reverse to 4-conductor wiring.Uncle E wrote: Wed Nov 06, 2024 7:46 pm FWIW, that guitar is a perfect candidate for the 2502n switch. But a) I'm using a bridge pickup in the neck anyway so that should work out correctly; b) one pickup (bridge in the diagram, neck in your scheme with switch flipped) only needs 3 conductor wiring, so a phase flip switch can handle the outer wires.
Will be especially clean to do that on the Jaguar neck pickup as the wire can run right over to phase flip and then back to main switch.
