Hi all!

Got a new bank out that was a ton of fun to make:

Available here:
https://www.aiynzahev-sounds.com/collec ... sic-trance

What's interesting about this is SERUM is not a replica or anything, so it's neither a good replacement for the Virus or JP from classic trance tunes, nor is it really an analog emulation. What it is though is flexible with just enough tools on board to flex the sound whichever way you want. The result here I think is a very modern take on older trance sounds which still sounds authentic to the genre while also fresh and very suitable for modern production.

It is a great place to get inspiration from if you're a fan of this era of trance, but I think just on hearing the demo it shows itself to be capable of far more than recreations.

Here's the rundown:

Featuring 180 presets inspired by some of the best trance tunes from the turn of the millennium. While Serum has a pristine clear sound, the sounds here make full use of the filters, EQ, distortion/clipping, and the dynamics section to bring out tones that are classic in character but will fit right in with modern production styles.

There’s a strong emphasis here on the core of great production sounds. Basses, Leads, Pads and plucks, even digital vocal-like sounds, with just a handful of drum and FX sounds for good measure.

Since Serum features a basic sample playback oscillator, I thought it ideal to use small single samples expand the palette of this bank in key areas. Adding stereo waveforms and noise goes a long way, along with waveforms reminiscent of classic digital wave playback (PCM) synths.
  • 180 Presets for Serum 1.368 or greater
Modwheel and velocity assignments where useful
Macro assignments for tone variations and effects mix on many presets
MIDI included to inspire ideas and help with the creative process
You can hear the inspiration from the best of the era, Airwave, Ferry Corsten, Robert Miles, Matt Darey, and many more!

All the best everyone!

I just listened to your demo, and wow, that brought back some awesome memories! You’ve covered the classics that defined an era, and a genre. You really nailed them, too. 8)

The first few notes of your take on Sasha’s Xpander gave me goosebumps! The original serves as a time capsule for the hypnotic and heady ethos of the lush, progressive house movement.

Artists such as Sasha, BT, Hybrid, Quivver, Way Out West, JXL, and the like, increasingly blended atmospheric and cinematic elements into their house, melodic techno, and breakbeat tracks. I still love that sound to this day. Well done! :tu:

i don‘t have serum, but still listened to the demo and can only say: amazing!

Thank you all! It was a very fun process. People seem to really appreciate it so I'll keep it at. Maybe Spire next?

Minimal Audio’s Current would be another excellent choice if you want to stick with a wavetable synth. I’d love to see a Falcon expansion as well. It has a gorgeous granular engine for atmospheric pads.

Hive 2 and Icarus 3 also seem to be right up your alley in terms of style. Either one produces awesome sounds for progressive trance and melodic techno. They’re also very capable if you wanted to do something more cinematic.

You have great programming skills, so I don’t doubt that whatever you make next will be really cool. Cheers!

Zebralette 3 please?

Yes I tried it briefly and considered it, it's not the highest on my list of projects right now but it's certainly something I should revisit.

current is fantastic, but I'm not sure if enough people use it to be worth the time. Hive is something I'm going to do another bank for, for sure.

I've wanted to do a falcon set for a long time. I might pick it up this Black Friday.

I completely understand your hesitation in creating patches for Current. It is still a fairly new synth. But I also think that can work in your favor. Current 2.0 is out now and only $99. From my interactions on various forums, it's been very well-received. Even some of my friends and colleagues are slowly switching over from Serum, although I don't see Serum being replaced for quite a while.

I'm not surprised in the amount of hype surrounding Current 2.0 because of the incredible combination of wavetable oscillators, a sampler engine and granular engine, a handy sub oscillator, wavetable wave and warp effects, an absolutely killer effects rack, powerful modulation system with morphing LFO, and on and on. It's a playground for sound.

It also takes some time to learn for those who are still new to computer-based recording. With that in mind, the comment I have read the most is "where can I find good presets?" This is where there's an opportunity to be one of the first and best dressed to the party. The presets out there now tend to lean towards bass music, with a few exceptions. Spektralisk's Ultronium: Audio Annihilation for Current is an awesome example of what Current is capable of:

The market isn't saturated with a bunch of packs that sound the same. I would say that's one of the drawbacks with making a pack for Spire, unless you intentionally design sounds that stand out from the crowd. I know it's difficult to make any money selling presets. But for the reasons I've mentioned, you have a synth that is on everybody's radar right now with hardly any 3rd party expansions available for those who are looking.

You have an entire catalog of expertly-designed patches for the dance and trance scene. You know what kind of sounds work. That's why I think you would excel with Current. It's only a matter of time before others start releasing their packs. I plan on being one of them, but I'm currently (pun intended) working on patches for the Waldorf Quantum and that's taking all of my free time.

Version 2.0 is very affordable and people are actively searching for presets as we transition into the holiday season, when a lot of people purchase things that they've been waiting to go on sale. A proper progressive trance or melodic techno expansion with sequences, pads & atmospheres, plucks and synth bass is really needed. Just food for thought and my two cents. Cheers! :tu:
