Danno wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 12:08 am Holy that's a wealth of info, thanks. The order is done, so it is what it is now. :)

So I can flash the bios AFTER I've got Windows installed right?
You are welcome.
Look at the video, better before install the CPU/RAM/ETC.
Also pay attention when installing the CPU on the mobo, those pins in the CPU socket are VERY fragile, they can damage even when dropping the corner of the cpu on them.

Btw, thanks for the tweaks thread Pictus, its awesome.

More performance fix. :tu:

I use all, but keep MPO(Multi-plane overlay) enabled.

Thanks, I'll watch that vid on the bios update.. I don't think I've ever done it before.

I've built most of my computers for the past 20 years.. I'm far from an expert, but I do have some experience.

Hah, I had no idea you could do it without cpu/ram plugged in.

Is there any difference on storage nvme's?- pcie 5.0 x4 vs pcie 4.0x4?
Or pretty much the same for audio/ music production?

Btw intel have dropped the 14900k price to $500 as well.
So now I'm between 14900k and 7950x.
Is 7950x the most popular opinion here?

I loaded the dom sigalas's Cubase 13 project testing my Ryzen 9 7900 with UR22C , 64gb ram and almost managed to run 95tracks hitting 98% cpu usage,
Cubase 14 is said to have better performance I'm yet to see. I also compared the Cpu with the new 9 9950x - looks like on average 10-15% better - no way I'd upgrade - the 7900 runs super silent and is 65w - amazing !!!

NVMe throughput numbers rarely matter. Latency is where it is, and PCIe 5 doesn't improve that. But runs much hotter.

Does it mean pcie 4 is a better pick considering the price point and no difference in performance?

It doesn't hurt to have a PCIe 5 slot. But if you also put in a PCIe 5 NVMe SSD it gets very hot. For very little benefit outside of plain file copy.

Its up to you to decide what you want - stability or possible future problems. They both do the same thing, just that one (statistically) melts and breaks. To me the choice is clear.

Btw, I was working on a project the other day, and checked the CPU usage, which hovered around 3% in Reaper, on my 7950x + x670e mobo.

The project consts of: 3 x kontakt instances, 1x omnisphere, lots of fabfilter eq, comp, etc, microtonic x1, permut8 x 2, TAL Uno-L-X x1, shaperbox x3, few SPAN instances, 3x Reacomp, and ReaLimit (reaper limiter) on all of the 60 tracks in the project. 24bit 48khz, buffer 256 (5.8/6.1 latency). Quite decent I might say, considering that nothing is bounced to audio, everything runs live and some controlled via midi.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3srypK It would have been harder if you'd kept the M.2 drive the same :). (Then it would have been a call between 2 and 3 for me.)

You mean Crucial is better than WD?
