- Noctua is the best fan cooler, close to watercooling without the problems, also the most quiet
- Gskill 6400 ram because speed helps
- ASRock X670E Steel Legend because the best bang for the buck and also high end x670e
- be quiet! Silent Base 601 (no window) because it is the quietest case in existence - has internal sound proofing. Nanoxia Deep Silence if you are willing to spend.
- Seasonic because the most reliable/price brand
For SSD, Samsung 990pro is still the best in real life performance/cost. Crucial T700 beats it in speed, but costs more and runs quite hot. Not that much of a difference though, unless you do seq transfers, which you won't.
For samples+project storage I would use intel/solidigm enterprise sata SSD - found some quite cheap now and very fast on sample load. They're also heavy duty, and easier to recover the data in case of failure. You can get them used, and new if you're lucky at discounted price.

1. How different is X670E from B650 and why is x670e preferred?
2. Is Gskill a good brand or should I consider 6400 version in corsair or Kingston? (I used to use Kingston fury before and their after sales support was fantastic)

1. number of I/O channels and also x670e is the premium chipset from AMDvignesh.vijay wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 2:09 amQuestions-Lerian wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 5:50 pm - Gskill 6400 ram because speed helps

X670E = PCIe Lanes x 44 / USB 10G x 12 / USB 20G x 2 / SATA x 8
B650E = PCIe Lanes x 36 / USB 10G x 6 / USB 20G x 1 / SATA x 4
Also x670e comes with integrated PCIe5 controller, which means future proof, compared to PCIe4 found in B650e.
2. GSkill is a very reputable memory brand with quality products, while Kingston is just average. Also those Gskill models have lower latency - Look for CL values, better get ones with 30 or 32. Corsair Vengeance 96 GB (2 x 48 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory is also a good choice. Is just thats a bit slower, but have lower latency - not by much though, that's why I consider the GSkill version to be faster with CL32 latency and DDR5-6400.

As far as the slots are concerned, I don't see any pcie 4.0x16 slots available?
I have an Apollo uad dsp quad core card btw which I would be using in one of the pcie lanes.

You can put it in the pcie5 slot, its the same, will run at 4.0 speeds.vignesh.vijay wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 9:50 am As far as the slots are concerned, I don't see any pcie 4.0x16 slots available?

Also, for more x16 slots, with the newest AMD x870e chipset (which adds only USB40gb though):

Same thing, 4.0 cards inserted in the PCIe5 slots will run at 4.0 speeds.
But you can also insert it in the PCIe3 slot, as its not like you will ever reach PCIe3 speeds (4gb/sec) using UAD DSP. RME still uses USB2.0 ports which have 480mb/s and supports up to 70 channels at the same time. PCIe3 supports almost 8.33x70 = 583 one way =1166 both ways, which in reality you will never use - UAD DSP can't handle even 70 plugins at the same time as you can see in this chart - https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articl ... -DSP-Chart

For issues, google is your friend. They usually come up in reddit, manufacturer's forum, or other forums.vignesh.vijay wrote: Tue Nov 12, 2024 1:04 am Ok will read about it. This one also seems lit with features (not sure if it has issues though).

Holy I think I bent all the cpu socket pins. DAMN. First time for everything I guess.. but I was super careful to orient it correctly. Have a look.. they're flattened right? My eyes are great anymore.
Now.. did I fry the CPU by attempting to boot it?

The quality is not good enough, but from what I can see there are no burnt/bent pins.Danno wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 5:04 am Holy I think I bent all the cpu socket pins. DAMN. Really... hmm. I'm troubleshooting because I have DRAM and CPU lights stuck on for 10-15 in. (I think the first boot should take a bit, but this doesn't seem right)

You updated the BIOS before plugin the stuff, right?Danno wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 5:25 am Really... hmm. I'm troubleshooting because I have DRAM and CPU lights stuck on for 10-15 in. (I think the first boot should take a bit, but this doesn't seem right)
The RAM is in the right slots?
Try to clear the CMOS.

Ram in slots 2 and 4. I did that bios update yes… that seemed to run to completion.
I’ll try to clear cmos.
