I upgraded to version 6 not so long ago and the cost of upgrading again so soon with the new pricing structure is not appealing.I will wait to try the demo. If its any good, and Black Friday brings a 50% discount,I might buy it. If not,I think I will use the money saved to jump ship from PC to a new Mac Mini and give Logic a try out instead.

Try this, it a utility that will operate vie your taskbar. It will allow you to change the colour by shifting the hue of your screen among other colour related things. Note that this will affect your entire desktop and apps. The video you will find there shows the effect it can have on Studio Ones interface. Incase your wondering, I did script the extended colour presets which you can find there too.frankpain wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 3:32 pm I should have held off, Im still forced to look at those stupid blue meters. There’s no option in the poll “no”
The version 7 is not appealing for me, not only the version 7 with the features but the new pricing system and again the pushing for the subscription model are not appealing for me.

As far as I'm aware, it's a perpetual license and you pay for updates after a year. Or subscribe for a bunch of extra stuff. No it's not Logic, but the price of the entry is half what it was. Unless you're addicted to updates and "bright, shiny, new!" as much of the modern world has been led into, that's not half bad.

Yeah and I have no plans on updating to be honest I never thought I’d say this but I’m looking at Cubase real hard right now.

I have no intention of upgrading now that they have ditched the Artist version. I want a DAW with less shit, not more. I downloaded the Cubase 13.5 demo a couple of months ago, when Steinberg were having their big sale, and it only took me half-an-hour to realise that I will never go back. The sheer amount of effort involved in porting 70 or 80 songs to Cubase is just too daunting. It was easy to switch from Cubase to Studio One when we'd only done one album with Cubase but having ported 50+ songs from Orion to Studio One and created another two NOVAkILL albums, plus 40-odd new covers is just too much to be moving around again. I'm stuck with Studio One but that doesn't mean I have to upgrade. They can bash it up their collective arse.

I'm not opposed to upgrading, eventually.
They just need to give me something worth upgrading for.
But if/when that happens, I will first demo it with a strong eye towards whether these v7 changes have introduced any inefficiencies or impediments to my workflow.
I think any Studio One 7 upgrade for me would need to address this first:

Never realized how bad S1 performs on Mac. I know it was far worse before 3.5 added the dropout support but wow.jamcat wrote: Tue Nov 12, 2024 11:59 pm I'm not opposed to upgrading, eventually.

That's something I'd worked out not long after I switched to Studio One. Pretty much everyone who had problems with it was trying to run it on a Mac. Unfortunately, users don't really care about stuff like that, they make their purchasing decisions based on how many shiny bells and whistles are in the feature list, so that's what developers concentrate on.

Many use these JUCE libraries to convert code between platforms.
- I think it is Jules, Tracktion and Waveform, that did that library many tap into
Windows with it's messagebased system need another approach, I think, than Mac.
- it's not just poping in another call in a spot for either platform
- it needs different flow to be optimized
I think Avid are Mac people so run ProTools maybe or Logic which is Mac only.
When DigitalPerformer was released on Windows it was also badly adjusted
- plenty issues there
- it's been on Mac for ages and worked up a reputation there
Don't know if DP is of interest also maybe.

Avid were Mac people but Microsoft got them to move to Windows, 20+ years ago, by giving them Softimage. They may have switched back since but most places I've worked at this Century run Avid on PCs. Some post houses kept Macs around for FCP, until Apple screwed that particular pooch by turning it into a consumer app.
