Hi,
Just wanted to understand which is better for audio between the two. I see EVO plus is a newer model with 5x2 M.2.
Currently, EVO plus is cheaper than 990 pro. Should i prefer one over the other?

Samsung 990 Pro vs 990 EVO Plus makes no difference for KONTAKT, the NVMe SSD is not the bottleneck, but the 990 Pro is a better drive, the main thing to look for in KONTAKT is the
QD1 random read. The price difference is small, buy the 990 Pro especially for the drive C.

Does heatsink matter or shall i go for one without heatsink?

If the motherboard already has the heatsink, buy it without it.

FYI I was also looking for a new SSD recently and did a bit of looking around, found some trouble with Samsung SSDs, last year mainly, e.g.

the issues seem fixed meanwhile but while looking for alternatives I finally went with a Kingston Fury Renegade, also a fair bit cheaper.

I had been using samsung ssds for years now. Generally have been very stable for me.

that's exactly why you SHOULD go with samsung - they have really good consumer firmware support

We did the f/w upgrade on our 980pros before any were affected - but we did lose a couple of 2tb 870evo sata drives to an earlier f/w bug ( rma'd with zero issues and the other ones we had in use were fine post the f/w update )

other vendors are much worse both on notifying of issue and releasing fixes ( ironically the support on their enterprise drives is much more problematic - they don't release f/w to the public only to system integrators - so you're at the mercy of the SI for notifications/updates - having said that our large enterprise sata and u.2 drives providing high speed scratch storage on our compute servers have been very solid despite quite horrific workloads )

Hm...with working quality assurance I think this shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I am torn between not trusting Samsung and rewarding their patching. You don't know what issues are lurking in other drives.

But at the present time I'm buying sn850x drives.

AFAIK the EVO's didn't have this issue. I've got nearly a dozen of them (since they became available) under heavy/constant use, and not experienced any problems.
