Looks neat.

But is it $2,300 worth of neat ? .... lol

Post

Wow.

I'll stick with my OP-Z which looks like somewhat of a bargain.

Looks really interesting, look forward to YT being taken over on love and hate videos on launch! I hope people don't 'just' talk about the price. Sure its expensive, but so is Eurorack and Valve Guitar Amps...no point bitching, no one has to buy it!

I own an OP-1F but waited until I got a good second hand price (1200 GBP) and if this is good I would probably do the same- that said, I hate the black, hopefully they will make on e that matches the OP1-F at some point!

video comments are fairly unanimous ...

LOL, it's not even $2K, it's $2.3k. You know, the only thing that I wish that I could muster, is the chutzpah that TE seems to be drunk on. They should partner with Louis Vuitton or Gucci to create a truly collectable edition.

Was literally thinking that exact same thing. But what they really need is an unauthorised Behringer edition.

It’s funny because this time around, I think they can justify the price they’re asking.

But, for all they packed into it and all the additions due to negative responses on other releases… I still think they’re missing something.

While this is the likely the most portable device with its number of features, I don’t trust that this will stand up well over time and I’d hate to be boxed into this device just to justify why I bought it. This is where I give Ableton credit for designing something like Move, where a project can easily be finished later in Live.

How? I'm truly interested in hearing how on earth you can justify this price tag?

Looking at some of the videos it's _extremely_ limited in many different areas. For instance the drumkits having a GLOBAL envelope. Like.. what the f**k? A global ADSR for amplitude for your whole kit? And that's not at all the only oddity.

Simply based on the videos, this thing seems to be pretty much the opposite of OP-1. It's not at all intuitive to use. It's actually damn clumsy in numerous ways. Even the design itself isn't at all appealing in or "sleek" in my opinion. To me this is the first TE product that seems truly "bad" in terms of design, both in terms of how it operates physically and how it operates in software.

Adding all on top of this a 2300$ price tag is just bizarre.

So I have no watched all the videos, seems to me Its basically a repacked OP-Z with a screen (something a lot were asking for)

It is still bizarrely limited (press shift-press sequence step and turn pot all at the same time to just change velocity for example). The monochrome thing is just another example of style of useability (I loved the colour coding on the OP-1, that made sense).

Anyway, It will be a pass for me.

I absolutely hated the OP-1 workflow. I wished I had liked it because it looks nice, but f**k the tape limitation.

What I mean by worth its price tag is for specs, materials, and everything else. For what it is, I don’t think its likely going to be a cheaper than what it is.

Workflow wise, I don’t have faith in TE for having a good workflow in anything they design. At least they can get away with it on the Pocket Operators (impressive functionality for extremely limited space).

Workflow is not their strong suit. I get some people have gotten pretty far with an OP-1, but that workflow only works when you buy into it. Same with OP-Z, which I did love but it was clumsy and required working with daily to remember how to use it fully without a screen and those different “synth engines” sounded more like just different cycled waves.

Nobody has to agree with me.

It’s on them to sell it to you.

I’ve shit on enough of their field products, which are not top of the line products but yet come with premium price tags.

The thing with the OP1 (love it or hate it) is that’s a pretty unique, so it has a place in the music ecosystem even though it’s overpriced (and I say that as an owner!)

The XY is basically a step sequencer…it has a lot of competition, even in the ultra portable bracket (like the new Ableton Move and many others) you also have the tracker mini or M8 which gives insane per step control. You can buy a good ‘grab and go’ sequencer for quarter of the cost if the XY…it just doesn’t offer enough (at this time) to be four times more expensive than the others in this bracket.
