getting a bit noisy

Playing with Bruxa. The parts I’m having fun with were already on Strega, but I overlooked them.

The nice thing about James Cigler’s patch, using Spectraphon is using the even harmonics to modulate Bruxa and have it sound musical.

Seriously loving this.

I tested the demo version of MultitrackStudio (for Windows) on Linux. It ALMOST runs without issues. I can assign my MIDI keyboard and load up a VSTi and jam in some notes and stuff like that, but I can't get into the main preferences to edit them. URGH. But I might go back to Microsoft Windows and ditch Linux if it means that I can use more plugins without sudden crashes and use some demos with greater install compatibility.

But then again, I kinda hate computers compared to music hardware. I'm aching to get some hardware but most of what i'd like to get is antique already and that's not a winning combo with hardly any money and living at a difficult shipping address.

Anyways, I fixed up an older tune by loading up the stereo WV file (wavpack) and rearranging the sections and doing a few overdubs.
I'm about to post it up on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/909countyfair/ominous

Over the weekend, a lot of trying out Arturia V Collection stuff, first deciding whether to buy it (yes) then deciding what I want to have installed.

Beta testing some new things now (not Arturia) and a couple of them are very tasty indeed. :D

Man, I really thought I was going to pull the trigger on the latest V collection. I was waiting for the BF offer, as I’m on v8. But lately, outside of Live’s devices I really only use Diva.

Looking forward to seeing what the beta amounts to! I really like their approach to their devices (if it’s who I think it is).

Tried to compare what worked in the past to what works now in my studio.
Tried to notice what's failing now compared to the past.
Contemplated buying another computer.
Contemplated buying a groovebox.
Experimented with FL Studio step editor: realised that I can't quite do a certain kind of polyrhythm in there.

Couple of new toys arrived. Played around with the MC-707 and am finding it a cool writing tool so far. Forgot I hadn’t put an SD card in so lost everything when I turned it off, lesson learned!
Fit some modules in the 12U rack and tested it out. Power all seems to work and I resurrected some modules I hadn’t played with for years like the Behringer System 100 clones and 960 sequencer.
Think it’s going to be all voices, filters, LFOs and sequencers.

Are you safe?

played around with reference tunes and output EQ

Trying to clean up after installing and setting-up a new DAW-computer. Unsuccessful so far, still too much 'stuff' lying around.
CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin, Moved to Reason and Rack Extensions exclusively (from Reaper and VSTs) several years ago.

i gave my older (and better) speakers to a friend of mine. and made a new tune to start getting used to the new speakers.
the new ones might be more neutral but i'm not sure, but they definately sound different.

after listening to the new tune, i realised the next day that the EQ was kinda messed up.
And even though I had deleted the stems, I ran the whole thing through a nice Terry West EQ between two instances of BuzMaxiLimiter:

More Bruxa fun. I've been looking for different percussive bits to sample to Move, but I keep getting carried away.

That’s always how it happens to me. I start by manually triggering a sound in a way that I can easily resample… but inevitably I’ll start sequencing things, then a sampling session turns into a jam.

Me recording eurorack jam: Yes! This rules!
Me editing jam into useable samples: Well this sucks!

 Happy to know this is normal! I haven’t even gotten to the editing stage yet.

In the first video I uploaded, I got Bruxa to make sounds like the old over-dubbed kung-fu movies. It was like a metallic “schwing” type sound. With Bruxa’s noise, it had a lot-fi effect too. Recreating that cleanly, was the goal that clearly got away from me.

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil
