I might post a’talk me out of it’ thread as I might buy a Mac but probably not.
It would be fun to ask for advice because even though it’s all been said in the three current similar threads on KVR and countless similar threads previously, another one would probably be fun too.
Talk me out of it!

Macs are fundamentally elitist (more money for the specs than a similarly-specced PC, whether store-bought or home-built).
Mac OS is a chronic app-breaker (that applies to both DAWs and plugins).
Mac is a triumph of something I can't quite identify over both style and function.
Hoping that helps!

Mac’s are better than “talk me out of it “threads, without a doubt. If I have to choose one I’m picking the Mac any day of the week

Macs are for people who want Pro Tools to look the way it should.
Also, Macs are for people who can itemize their business expenses on their income-tax returns.
Plus, Macs will never give you the joy and satisfaction of having built your own rig.

Sorry, but I find your post to be rather off-topic.ChanceB wrote: Sun Nov 17, 2024 11:38 pm Mac’s are better than “talk me out of it “threads, without a doubt. If I have to choose one I’m picking the Mac any day of the week

You know all the deep but esoteric and ultimately useless OS and driver knowledge you acquire when trying to get software to work at all on PC's? On the mac you miss out on all those learnings!

I don’t do ANYTHING without asking complete strangers to talk me out of it. But, hey, if you want to live dangerously and use your own brain, then whatever.

Well it is wise to seek wise counsel, but I'm not sure if that applies to vain things like mac versus Windows unless you're bringing deeper arguments into it.

My MacBook Air M1 thermal throttles a lot because my session glitches with just a handful of instances of some plugins. The perf is unpredictable. My intel i7 Mac mini performed consistently well, just noisier under heavy load. I at least knew when the damn thing is stressing out. With my MBA the CPU is <10% but still glitches.
So, idk. On one hand, the perf on the MBA M1 is great but only for some time till thermal throttling kicks in. On the other hand, when the perf is great it's wonderful and silent. However, not all the cores are used. 2 perf cores are idling, yet I get glitching like crazy.
So, take it for what it's worth. I'm waiting for the M4 studio.
Regardless, Mac all the way. It's a question of Intel Mac vs. M1 Mac for audio for me.
