Heja,

Which Plugins do require your old machine beeing around for the deactivation process of sayed plugins ?

Please list all the plugins that require a deactivation from within the plugin, from within the machine in question.

( not mac specific, but since the new macs are coming in........)

If in doubt, please add a note, like : "iirc", "afaik", "not sure if has been changed", etc.

I-Lok:
the licences sticked to your computer, these need to be managed from your machine in question. Afaik, can´t be managed from another machine.

single plugins i remember -> deactivate from within the plugin: ( from within your machine in question)
- Sylenth1
- Serato sample player

Fabfilter seems to be another one. Can't fine a de-activate option on their website, but can be De-Authorised from the Help Menu. Wonder if Tech Support can do that too?
check that VI-control thread ! but it´s allready older

IK Multimedia -- not from within the plugins themselves, but they should be deactivated in the IK Product Manager before formatting or retiring a drive.

I don't know if there's something similar on Mac, but on Windows, from
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
you could sort your installed stuff by vendor and check your web account for each of the vendors you're not sure about, to see if deactivation is possible through their website.

FabFilter
Has a 'Deauthorize…' option in the Help menu of each plug-in - which if selected will deauthorize all locally installed FabFilter plug-ins.

reFX
Both Nexus 4 and Vanguard 2 plug-ins have a 'deactivate computer' option under the account avatar in the plug-in.

Reveal Sound
Spire has an option to 'Unregister' under the plug-in Menu section. It just seems to deactivate it locally.

LennarDigital
Sylenth1 an option to deactivate machine/license in the plug-in menu. This frees-up an activation slot so you can activate it on another computer.

General Tip — Log-Out
For plug-ins that don't seem to have a specific deactivation procedure, I'd always recommend logging out of each developer's local 'software center'. I always log out of Native Access (for Native Instruments), KORG Software Pass, Arturia Software Center (after deactivating all plug-ins), iZotope Product Portal, reFX (after deactivating all plug-ins), Roland Cloud, Toontrack Product Manager

Hope that helps.

Waves. I recently made the mistake of wiping my laptop hard drive without deactivating my Waves Electric Grand 80, from within the Waves Central utility on the machine in question. :dog:

Fortunately, there is an exception as described in the https://www.waves.com/support/reactivat ... r-licenses page. The caveat being "Each product license can be recovered only once per year."

How much are you offering to pay us? In the past week or so you could have researched this topic yourself for the plugins you actually use.

My advice would be to start a spreadsheet (or even just a plain-text file) for yourself where you can put notes for yourself re: the plugins that need to be deactivated in-situ before a drive-replacement or reformatting as opposed to those that can be deactivated from your accounts on the vendors' sites.

Waves is a big one. I'll also throw Dreamtonics into the mix. I don't think Arturia counts because you can remove your activation from the website, even if you've lost access to your activated installation. I believe Toontrack is the same but I'm not 100% sure.

Correction on the Arturia post. Arturia gives the user the ability to deactivate any computer as long as you are logged into your account. You don't need the Arturia Software Center app. Once logged in to the Arturia website, the option appears under each software title in the " My Products" tab under Arturia Software Center activations. To see the option you have to click "See More" to see the option. Arturia doesn't belong on the list.

Post

Ah, apologies. You have to deactivate Arturia apps from outside the plug-in, so yes it doesn't belong on my list above. Edited for clarity.

Sonible,
You can use ILOK, or a license file. vs. the latter, from their FAQ:

How can I remove an existing license file?

Please follow these steps to remove an old license file:

MAC:

Open „Finder“
press „shift + cmd + g“ to open "Go to Folder"
enter ~/Library/Application Support
find the folder com.sonible.plugin-name
Inside this folder, remove (or rename) the file sdid.son

Windows PC:

Open your Explorer
go to c:\Users\%your username%\AppData\Roaming\com.sonible.plugin-name
(This folder is hidden, so you may have to change your folder settings to show hidden files.)
Inside this folder, remove (or rename) the file sdid.son
