Lots of good info here, and definitely get the IK free stuff to start off.
That said, I do have Amplitube 5 and the SLO, but prefer the Neural DSP SLO-100, use it all the time (I love the Fortin Cali as well, a very fine amp - though for very heavy stuff I reach out to NTS and Nameless).

Test the Neural one, and see how you like it - there is a chance of getting it 50% off during a sale and this is the right time of the year (that's how/when I got it )

For the SLO-100 specifically there actually probably *aren't* better options than the NeuralDSP plugin, but it is not cheap.

I do like the Soldano in Amplitube just fine though.

I think your best overall bet is to wait until Amplitube 5 Max goes on sale for $99 and just buy that. the variety of what you get is huge and the quality is quite good.

What I’ve learned about Amplitube is that the amps are pretty much all great, but the cabinet emulation is mediocre. I’ve abandoned using the included cabinets for the most part, and instead now use the built in IR loader, which actually loads stereo IRs which sounds great, IMO. Very “in the room,” when used in conjunction with the room convolution, which is really excellent. Plus, now it loads Tonex captures, which are generally great.

The reason I love Amplitube, despite the cabinet emulation, is that it’s a single solution that takes care of pretty much everything you could ever want. I even found a Tonex (which I also own) capture of an old rare Ampeg guitar amp that I sold long ago, and it sounds excellent, just like I remember. The effects all sound great to me as well, and there’s a ton of variety. Inversely, the Neural DSP stuff, sounds great but is very limited. It’s pretty expensive and you get what you get, and if you want to add something different like a stomp box emulation that isn’t included, you’re loading up a separate plugin, and you can no longer just call up your sound as a single preset, unless you use your DAW and it has that ability. My other complaint about it is that the reverbs are crazy overpowering. I don’t think I’ve ever used one of the included reverbs, even the ones built into amps, where I set the blend amount beyond 2. I’d love to meet the person who thinks this is fine. It’s kind of weird.

Yeah. I am actually selling Amplitube now because I simply use Kuassa more, but it's not because of issues I have with it. The amp sim quality and overall bag of stuff you get in Amplitube is awesome.

Agree on the cabs though, the bass ones actually sound muddy to me. But there's lots of great IR loaders out there.

Not sure if this sounds anything like a Soldano but it replaced nearly everything else for me. The biggest attraction besides great sound and feel is.....no option overload. Just plugin and play. The included IRs are even as good.

I got Amplitube 5 max on sale, the amps are good but it takes forever to load. I got Primo on sale and that's nifty, fast and neat.

I am going to be a bit biased here, but I think Blue Cat Audio's Axiom is an AMAZING suite. The UI is fairly basic in terms that it is not trying too hard to look like your favourite amp, but it (IMHO) offers more control over the tone.

Anvil is from Ignite amps. TSE has the great free 808 and BOD also a 5150 emu both have great free stuff.
