Roland Earth Piano?

This looks very interesting - even though I have Pianoteq the combo of a hybrid modelled piano and those Roland reverbs and fx looks appealing.

Only 2.5 GB so I presume a lot of this is modelling? Anyone tried it? My only worry is having to signup for Roland Cloud, do you have to do that even for a lifetime key?

Yes you have to sign up for the Roland Cloud, install the very buggy Roland Cloud Manager and make sure you let it phone home once a month even if you own a lifetime key
If you have pianoteq you have no need for it
Roland has some pretty amazing digital Piano technology in both the Super Natural Piano engine and the modeling they do and in instruments like the RD2000
Unfortunately this is neither of those, it's really no better than the pianos already inside of Zenology and the SRX expansions that were already inside of the Roland Cloud
In fact I am 99% certain they just used those and put some impulse responses after them for the position of the lid and the room sounds in some type of convolution
It would be OK if you didn't have anything else, but if you have literally anything else there is just no reason to consider it

Yeah I know, I was so hoping it was built on these. If not, as you say there's no point, thanksIvyBirds wrote: Mon Nov 18, 2024 1:28 pm

It's definitely a mix of modeling and samples and definitely not just Zenology/SRX pianos. It sounds much better than Zenology/SRX to my ears, and includes lots of model tweaking that Zenology/SRX do not have.
Plus, Roland states that it includes modeling: "Advanced modeling techniques come together. EARTH Piano brings the best and most modern Roland piano sound technology to your music. Our advanced approach combines detailed multi-sampling with proprietary modeling techniques for the perfect blend of realism and playability. With its incredibly natural sound, wide dynamic range, and engaging response, EARTH Piano provides an inspiring platform for everything from intimate solo performances to dense full-scale productions."
That said, after trying the demo, I generally prefer Pianoteq and a few other sample libraries, even though Earth Piano does sound nice to me.

You are quite welcome, I think Roland is missing out on a lot of potential sales by not making a Super Natural Piano plugin. I guess they are worried about cannibalizing digital piano hardware salesaMUSEd wrote: Mon Nov 18, 2024 1:55 pmYeah I know, I was so hoping it was built on these. If you don't have it already you should check out the Black Friday sale for the Arturia V collection. Not only do you get a bunch of synths, but it includes "V Piano" which is a really nice modeled piano, and "Augmented Piano" which runs piano samples through a Synthesis engine and a bunch of effects for more out there ambient sounds

I have them both, Augmented Piano is great but for unrealistic pianos, V-Piano is based on Pianoteq tech but a few gens back so not as good. I was really hoping Earth Piano would be based on Roland's own V Piano tech, I guess I should try a demo though while it is still on sale.

I could not get Earth piano to sound good on my system at all. I noticed Roland cloud is offering a new RD download but it would not install anywhere on my system where I could pull it up stand alone or in a DAW and even try it. Bummer.
