Topic: Techniques You Dream About Yet Haven't Done Yet
Are there any special production techniques that you've thought about maybe even thought about alot yet have not yet attempted to do?
For me here's some:
1) put dubstep "wub" triplets on their own silent channel and unmute them during special passages of overdubs
2) create composite synth samples from taping down keys and sustaining notes and mixing 8 or more panned tracks of that together.
3) recording me breaking things to use as percussion rhythms, including the breaking sound. like tapping a glass on cement to the rhythm even as it cracks and breaks and drops and bounces and continues to break... and use all the sounds without edits in the tune... so hopefully it would sound like the rhythm was falling to pieces.
what production ideas do you have that you've thought about doing that you don't mind sharing?

Setting up an entire guitar rock band in a room together, plugged in directly to instrument inputs which are processed in real time through ampsims loaded on the audio tracks, with each routed back out of the DAW from their own separate aux outputs into their own separate PA speakers or guitar cabs to perform the job of guitar and bass amps.
Put the drummer on an e-kit that is sending midi to MODO DRUM or Superior 3, and then back out through aux outs to a stereo pair of monitors on either side of the drummer.
Keyboardist would be set up like the drummer, playing VSTi in the DAW via midi that plays through the main PA speakers.
There would be only one live mic in the room, for the vocalist to do a live scratch vocal through an SM58. It would come back with some reverb and compression through the main PA speakers as well.
The band then plays live in the room together, with no baffles or isolation and is recorded in one live take. No multitrack overdubs except for the vocals being redone with headphones and a proper large diaphragm condenser vocal mic once the live take is recorded.
The result would be a totally live performance experience for the band, with a live feel and energy, but every instrument would be recorded in total isolation for a slick studio sound. The best of both worlds. The perfect guitar tones and drum kit could be selected after the fact.

Nice idea. The best of both worlds - that's exactly what we're tryingjamcat wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 11:40 am

to achieve. For a long time - and every day.
The difference: We really play live - every instrument on the original
live set. But after that comes precise tuning and a little editing here
and there. And sometimes it's really annoying and makes you tear
your hair out.

I always wanted to set up some micro controllers and some electromechanical triggered drums. I am too lazy to source the parts cheaply and too cheap to pay full price.

That's pretty fun. I was talking about the opposite where you trigger physical percussive hits with midi rather than triggering MIDI with bits of everyday objects.Uncle E wrote: Sat Nov 23, 2024 6:21 pmhttps://www.korg.com/us/products/drums/cliphit/Ah_Dziz wrote: Sat Nov 23, 2024 5:27 pm I always wanted to set up some micro controllers and some electromechanical triggered drums. There's a good bit of off the shelf stuff to do it, and it can be diy'ed for way less, but as I said: lazy, poor.
