EDIT: I really have no clue what happend there with this release? Incomplete PDF manual (even though they labeled it with "v7.0"), lackluster and short promo videos for release day, Gregor has gone into hiding for 6 weeks now, and so on. It all felt a bit rushed and hurried.

@Vocalpoint Studios: I completely agree with you on all points!

Spot on!Crossinger wrote: Sat Nov 16, 2024 4:09 pm If we make a few assumptions about their development iterations, then with 2 bugfix sprints of 3 weeks each, we can expect the next release to be ready around November 20th. Adding a couple of days for final testing, writing changelog, uploading to the servers...

This is so true! Did they fix the bugs from the older version before release of 7? Or are there still the old bugs and top of those new ones from the version 7? (Seems there have been bug fixes now)Vocalpoint Studios wrote: Mon Nov 18, 2024 2:58 pmTrue "agile" development would be like everyone else does it.Crossinger wrote: Mon Nov 18, 2024 2:53 pm Well, software development takes time - even in an agile world. My take on "faster" (based on my experience of 20+ years in the software development business) is that they plan to bring new features faster out of the door and don't wait until a bunch of fixes & features has been cumulated.
Document 4 critical bugs (not 44) and fix those 4 and get them out there. Then start on the next 5. And so on.
Saying "we are focused on faster development" (but ONLY for new features) - is pointless.
The real value in premium software is stability and maturity - not some "faster" promise of adding some dinky features that may (or may not) matter.
There are some major issues with v7 that needed to be corrected 10 days after release - not 6 weeks later.

They need to sort out efficiency core multiprocessing on Apple Silicon way more than they need to add more features for beatmakers.

Can pretty much guarantee that is not a high priority.jamcat wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 1:39 pmThey need to sort out efficiency core multiprocessing on Apple Silicon way more than they need to add more features for beatmakers.
Even the most current version of Logic itself does not use Apple Silicon cores properly.
If Apple can't even sort out their own software ON their own hardware - why would anyone else bother with it?

I am also interested to try Studio One v7. Amongst other things, I curious to see how the Clip Launcher performs and how it compares to those in Live and Bitwig.
I read the update cost/policy thread on this forum and still remain unsure how it works. For example, if I purchased it and upgraded in say 18 months time, what would I pay ? also is it the same as Bigwig's update model ?
Currently, I use Ableton Lite and spend my money on good VSTs so Studio One would have to be very good for me to enter the world of quasi-subscription (if this is what it is)

The Launcher in v7 is servicable and very basic. If this is a primary reason for upgrading - it is no Bitwig - I can tell you that.gwing wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 2:36 pm I am also interested to try Studio One v7. If you "buy" a perpetual license today and you are a new user - $199.00 gets you into the v7 cycle - WITH updates until Nov 21, 2025.gwing wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 2:36 pm I read the update cost/policy thread on this forum and still remain unsure how it works. On Nov 22, 2025 - you will simply carry on - with no updates - and run the version of S1 v7 that you have at that time.
Then if you feel like 6 months later (May 2026) - that you want to jump back in and start getting updates again - it is $149.00 to you - your S1 install will "catch up" to any updates missed between Nov 21, 2025 and the day in May you rejoin.
And of course you also get another dose of annual updates to May 2027.

If you get a permanent license via the subscription, you can't sell that license. It's tied forever to your account.

I admit that this might be a thing for some people. But l’m nearly 60 years old and I have never in my life sold a used license. So l don’t mind.Resonant- Serpent wrote: Sat Nov 23, 2024 8:48 am If you get a permanent license via the subscription, you can't sell that license. It's tied forever to your account.

Am I correct in assuming that the upgrade policy/cost of Studio One is now the same as Bitwigs' ie pay for a year of upgrades then pay for a further year after 12 or more months ?

As of today, its still possible to purchase an old fashioned "upgrade" to your current version. This version licence can be transferred, gifted, sold, etc. The other method is subscription, which becomes NFR (not for resale)after a years subscription is up. All Bitwig licences can be transferred at any time, even if the year has ended. Studio One 12 months+ is a true subscription - Bitwig's is not a subscription. So,no,they are not the same.gwing wrote: Sat Nov 23, 2024 1:26 pm Am I correct in assuming that the upgrade policy/cost of Studio One is now the same as Bitwigs' ie pay for a year of upgrades then pay for a further year after 12 or more months ?
