A bit sad, that people helped to beta test (like myself) had to pay more.
Some asked for a discount for beta testers, but they denied. Now this happens, quite unfortunate.

I find it a bit strange with moaning about prices. You would have probably have a heart attack if you saw the prices of kit back in time.$3,500 for a sampler, $3,000 for a synth, $2,500 for a synth module, $4,000 for a Mackie. A drum machine was $450.00 - $600
You should feel a bit less hard done by and put your energy into making music.
Ok so if you are really poor that is a problem but that's not likely especially if you have a MAC or and a DAW and a tonne of plug ins.
Focus on how incredible your system is and make a good tune.
In saying that I do not see the appeal of Beta testing in the slightest, if you feel burnt by 10 bucks you know what to do.

It's really not about the price (at least for me).Synthman2000 wrote: Wed Nov 20, 2024 9:16 pm I find it a bit strange with moaning about prices. But let's say you helped someone improve their product, reported a few bugs, and then they say pay that price now, we appreciate your help, but can't do anything (maybe a good gesture like a few bucks or a free plugin like on BF or even some extra presets). No nothing. Then some weeks later they give 30-40% off out of nowhere (and a free plugin).
It's that, what upsets me a bit.
I'm not very angry, just an unfortunate thing when helping someone and they know you will buy it anyway since you got to love it by finding bugs and giving some good ideas for new features

you can either see it that or that way. anyway, doesn't matter.Dirtgrain wrote: Wed Nov 20, 2024 10:30 pm I figured people beta tested it because they wanted to play with it right away.
Still a very good plugin (was before and even better now). Enjoy the sales

I don't think these businesses are purposefully dishonoring any loyal customers. I think they have timelines and then alterations in their pricing plan that are based on, well, business... Unfortunately I think a lot of companies get by on faith, because to me, it would seem that a lot of them are simply blessed to get even enough sales to stay in business, being that they have a very small market to attend to (at least this is my hypothesis) and try to get enough new users to be profitable; as opposed to "securing" old users in order to profit from their upgrades. I remember being 20 and saving up many months to buy a $400 drum machine...Synthman2000 wrote: Wed Nov 20, 2024 9:16 pm I find it a bit strange with moaning about prices. My prices were not even inflation adjusted. A synth would be $9,000.00 today and take a month to learn and do basics. And it would be arguably much worse in usability than a softs synth.
Beta testing must be for people who have a lot of time on their hands. I am glad people want to do it mind you, they provide a useful free service for software developers.
And people willing to pay normal upgrade fee, like me. Oh I am so hard done by I could have bought some veg oil fried junk for lunch in a capital for $€9 in a cafe.

yeah certainly, and also to hand in feature requests and bug reports while the iron is hot. It's still free labor.Dirtgrain wrote: Wed Nov 20, 2024 10:30 pm I figured people beta tested it because they wanted to play with it right away.
And I don't think it's a smart move to do a bf sale but not an intro sale in this specific case if you consider the timeline. I can understand anyone who bought this on release feeling bamboozled now.

It's possible that they weren't prepared for the competition and have adjusted strategy on the fly. Until just a few weeks ago Kick 2 was about as good as it got and then 3 substantially better. The market changed rapidly with more products released.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Anyway...the sale tempted me to buy it, it is very good indeed

Comparisons to Kick Ninja (mainly) were made in the beta discord all the time, so I think the competition was already known. But if sales were not that good after release that might explain an unexpected bf sale for kick3 (upgrade).
I've been prepared to pay the full upgrade price tbh, but decided to wait until bf goes by for exactly this reason. In hindsight the right decision so I'm not affected, but generally I think we would all be happier without these 4d chess sales tactics.

Kick Ninja has some great features, probably more advanced than kick3 at this point. For some reason I don't vibe with the GUI tho, so I went with the considerably cheaper kick3 upgrade. More advanced also doesn't necessarily mean better, because otherwise we would all use psylab.

So when Kick 3 analyzes a sample the "click" is just isolated from the original sample rather than resynthesized, right? So it's basically sampling the click, not creating something arguably "new" but similar.
And it seems there isn't an AI "closest match" feature to get something similar but without as clear US copyright infringement issues. That would be very useful for getting something similar and then tweaking.
