I was thinking that with companies like GForce returning after a long hiatus the market was probably more profitable now than ever. Hard to know, clearly there are so many products competing, and as a result prices tend to drop rapidly after initial release, or the majority of buying happens around BF (quite a daft scenario). So even u-he has started to drop prices, and prior low-cost options like Valhalla no longer look cheap.
But there must be an infinite stream of new consumers in the market, young folk who want to play with the tools, and who on their journey decide drip by drip to buy every iteration of every historic synth, compressor etc ever made. I guess this corresponds with the maturation of social media and the fact that now anyone can easily publish what they do. Hence DAWs introduce more features that correspond to that demographic, auto-mastering etc.
Aha, I guess I've answered my question, the new market conditions rely on huge quantities of low-cost purchases, and mega-synths don't fit that criteria well. GForce can rely on new sales of an expanding product line, whereas the one-stop-shop uber synth needs something like Current's preset library to generate constant revenue.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

From what I gathered from young newcomer's,on Reddit mostly(there are a lot of them)they want Serum or Omnisphere or Arturia stuff, but usually Serum,or they use Vital. I doubt most of them have even heard of Rapid. They want what their favorite artists use or what the YouTubers use in their tutorials, plus Serum has an insane amount of aftermarket presets available . I don’t own Rapid for some reason but own almost all the others,I did demo it and thought it was cool and did want it but never got it for some reason. Unfortunately after reading this thread I don’t think I will be buying in the future

Afaik there are two developers on rapid, one in house and one sub contracted (or some form of relationship), whilst indeed the latter (Mirko) does work for other developers including Avenger (vengeance sound) was that really what has been preoccupying his time?

The Parawave account was last active here on 14 February of this year but their last post was 20 November of 2023 so over a year ago.

They could have posted on 14 Feb to let us know they are still breathing but chose not too despite being fully well aware that their lack of communication has been a source of frustration for some paying customers.

Again I don't even care if Rapid ever gets another update. I just want some proof of life and some assurance from the developers that we will still be able to authorize it going forward well into the future.

The fact that their normal "minor update, Black Friday deal" cycle has so far been broken this year is not a good sign.

I've said it before, a little communication costs nothing but a lack thereof is possibly costing them sales. A simple "we're still alive" would take less than two minutes so if that's too much for them to handle that tells us all we need to know about the company and the two guys behind it. They wouldn't be the first guys who are talented developers but terrible businessmen.

It's a shame because Rapid really is an awesome synth as it sits right now but these days whenever I'm tempted to use it in a project I'll just reach for VPS Avenger instead because that synth is still alive and in active development, both the synth and sound content.

If someone were to ask me today which one they should purchase the answer is painfully obvious to me.....

Or Nexus 5!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Post

I've never tried Nexus but version 5 appears to be right in the same league as Rapid and Avenger so yes it would be something to consider as well. I may try the demo at some point if there is one.

I just couldn't in good conscience recommend anyone buying Rapid at this point. That could change of course in the light of new information but at this point I have very little faith that's going to happen.

guys please calm down. with all the bad feedback etc. you might provocate situations. maybe even the company is angry and will pull the plug from the servers.... :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

p.s.
even if they would return with a new version or whatever, they wont see any coins from me anymore. this behaviour is not acceptable but sady only some people check the forums and/or dont care.

so much whining here! Have owned Rapid for a few years now and it's a polished finished product, never had any sort of bugs or crashes. It's obviously that these developers have a life as well and work on multiple things, makes sense that once a project is a finished state you only revisit it from time to time, since you have to actually chuck out a portion of time and focus from your other project that's currently being worked on (regardless if that's a dayjob, another synth, spending more time with the family or working on something completely different).

So yeah, I believe 1.9 will drop at some point when the dev will have some resources to further develop a already finished thing.

I use it every day, on almost every project along side U-he Hive. Never had any problems, don't need any updates or reassuring noises from the developer. Unless they announced end of product or something similar, I am going to assume all is good and carry on my merry little way.

Perhaps the developer who is obviously a very good coder found another coding gig that is less stressful and brings home the bacon?
Good luck to him if that is the case. Sure I would like to see further development of Rapid but it isn't like the project was left full of bugs, quite the opposite in fact.
If the servers go down without a trace, then obviously that would be bad form.
