I tend to trudge through bandcamp these days. And I check out people's playlists there who have bought similar music that I have.
I also search on youtube for new or old bands that may have missed, for specific genres that i like and then try and buy the mp3s.

This one can be quite useful, though it can be a little overwhelming.

If we are talking 'music' rather than what goes for music presently which is way overdone FX which masks a lack of ability then old MODs are great as they did not have tons of FX so the music itself must pull through...

That's enough to last anyone through the winter...

This is the best source for really new music. My teenager/young friends always show me some unexpectedly cool music that I had no idea existed, being totally under/over my radar. Of course I'm not talking about mainstream, 'taylor swift' stuff.Basseldon wrote: Fri Nov 22, 2024 5:37 pm My daughter! She shows me new stuff that I would never find all the time. I will add she has good taste. lol
Also, if you can fool the algorithm that you are in a certain age bracket, it will show you popular music in that age bracket, tuned by your interests. Otherwise it will lock you in your age/location loop regardless of your interests, that do have some weight, but less than age and location, in my experience.
I'm curious if anyone knows more/some ways to control the algorithms (youtube mostly, but also music streaming sites).
PS: I think this thread belongs to another section - Everything else (music related)

I sometimes like it when music just sneaks up on you from behind a hedge and goes "RAAAAAGH!!" and you go "Wot the hell?" and then hopefully it's an enjoyable experience rather than a scary heart attack sort of thing.
Also, in addition to the other people's suggestions above, I've truly discovered some decent music in KVR Music Cafe from time to time.

Not specifically my 'favorite' way, but I do tend to do this occasionally: Go to a music webshop, lookup some music I like, and then look at the section 'other people who bought this, also bought...'. I've found some great new acts that way over the years, many that I'd never heard of before.

The suggestion from youtube at the right side while watching a video.
Playlists, especially from Chennels that have uploaded tracks I like.
Sometimes going through the publications of a certain label.

I go to Beatport and check out the charts. Most of it is garbage but one chart labeled Mainstage had some really great stuff.

following youtube breadcrumbs.
music map.
local record shop (well, not too far, there's a couple left in liverpool)
killing strangers and stealing their records.
friends.
gigs.
stickers on bus stops/lamp posts/shutters (diy bands do this a bit around here)
listening at the neighbours wall with a glass.
plucking people's ear pods out and having a quick listen before they get the police involved.

I wouldn't mind a repeat with Eagles vs Chiefs so this time the birds can shit down the Chiefs throats.
I have a feeling though that we're going to get a wildcard SB. Maybe Packers vs. Steelers.
Oh and to the OP, the most favorable way to discover music is with your ears.
