Would I still need FabFilter Pro-C if I had Pro-MB?

I'm aware that Pro-C is single (full) band compressor and Pro-MB is multi-band compressor and because of that the workflow - in particular the graphical representation of the results - is slightly different. But other than that does Pro-C have anything I can't do using Pro-MB with just a single band?

I'm considering getting some of their stuff while the -25% sale lasts, but I'd prefer to avoid feature overlap (I was thinking Pro-L, Pro-MB, Pro-Q3 and Timeless2)

I will. But why would I need both? At least point me in the right direction, because looking at the specs I don't see anything Pro-C can do that Pro-MB cannot.

Pro-C has different types of compressors built in, while Pro-MB is more like an 'allround' type compressor.

The Style button selects the style or compression. Pro-C 2 offers 8 different styles, all with their own characteristics:

• Clean - An allround, low distortion, feedforward, program dependent style (originally from Pro-C v1).
• Classic - A vintage, feedback, very program dependent style (originally from Pro-C v1).
• Opto - A relatively slow, very soft knee, more linear opto style (originally from Pro-C v1),
• Vocal - A very effective algorithm to bring vocals to the front of your mix. It works with automatic knee and ratio settings, so compressing your lead vocal is as easy as choosing the right threshold.
• Mastering - Designed to be as transparent as possible, introducing as little harmonic distortion as possible, while still being able to catch those fast transients.
• Bus - Especially great for bus processing, or for adding a pleasant glue to your drums, mixes or tracks.
• Punch - Traditional, analog-like compression behavior, sounds good on anything!
• Pumping - Deep and over-the-top pumping, great for drum processing or EDM.

Pro-C is a dedicated single band compressor with a multiple modes (compression types) to choose from.
Pro-MB is a dedicated multiband tool, that does gating, expansion and compression.

If you are looking for a transparent compressor (and IMO everybody should have one, in addition to musical compressors) then I'm a big fan of Pro-C.

While Pro-MB does also do compression, you lose the different modes which affects the way it attacks/releases which is very important when you need it.

I would say go for it and get Pro-C too. All of the different algos makes it quite versatile and it has better visual feedback tools. Unless I need to upward and or multiband compress or upward/downward expand, I'll always reach for Pro-C over Pro MB.

I say don't hesitate but maybe demo Pro-C 2 alongside Pro-MB and see if you can match it sonically using a single wide band on Pro-MB. They are very different though and work beautifully together (low end expansion and high end compression in Pro-MB followed by Pro-C 2... so slick!).

You can most likely accomplish everything you need to accomplish with MB. But Pro-C does have some really nifty compression modes. That being said, there's a ton of free amazing compressors available (TDR has a few) so you can probably get buy without Pro-C for now.

Sure. They are different at all. I got the full bundle of Fabfilter and it's an amazing stuff for sure!
