Non-FFT noise reduction algorithms

I'm a big fan of iZotope's vocal noise reduction in RX. Not only does it not use an FFT, it's minimum phase & 0 latency. I'm assuming it's just a beefed up 64 band dynamic EQ. Personally, I think it's actually better for light noise reduction compared to their spectral noise reduction. I'm wondering if there's any other noise reduction software/plugins that's minimum phase & non-FFT. I think there's a lot of promise in using this method along with properly implemented lookahead/FIR smoothing, like in compressors, for even cleaner results.
I know of:
1. The previously mentioned RX vocal noise reduction
2. Bertom Audio Denoiser/Pro

Ah, you are asking for software not algorithms.
Total variation minimizing denoising is used commonly in image processing, including the first images of a black hole. I use it occasionally in my professional work. There are one-dimensional versions of the algorithm. I don't think they are real time for audio processing.

iZotope explicitly states it uses 64 bandpass filters that act as a gate. I don't believe FFT processing uses conventional "bandpasses" or other common filter types.kidslow wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 2:06 am Are you referring to just the RX Voice De-noise tool? Are you sure that Izotope is not using FFT? How so?
Psycho Circuitry's VOCAL FIX IT+ SUITE is stated to not use FFT.

I honestly wish there were more image processing algorithms ported to audio. Median/Average filtering can actually be useful & I believe they're in DCart 11. I suspect Renoise's "Smooth" is some form of this. airwindows has a frequency averaging plugin which acts like a funky lowpass filter that has good phase coherence even when dry/wet mixing, I use that the most!Gribs wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 1:32 am Ah, you are asking for software not algorithms.

I did not know that, but good to know. I have found that using more than one (or even sometimes one) FFT-based noise reduction tool in a chain substantially increases the possibility of smearing and other unwanted side effects. Bertom Pro is one of my GoTos now for that reason.DNAudio wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 2:21 am iZotope explicitly states it uses 64 bandpass filters that act as a gate. I have downloaded the Psycho Circuitry toolkit but have not played with it. Here is where he describes it as being not FFT-based. https://gearspace.com/board/showpost.ph ... stcount=18
Also believe Klevgrand's Brusfri is based on frequency-trimmed expanders rather than spectral. So there's another one.
