Some of the fun experiments in this track:
- All effects in-synth. No mastering effects. LUFS low to minimize clipping.
- The track features 3 different time signatures with some effort into seamless transitions.
- Melody / arp lines time warped with non-linear time-warping homebrew scrips (sinus and exponential time mapping).
- Multi-instrumental 1/8 echo delay. I.e. the delays are using different Myth instruments.
- Tempo is linearly changing between 90 and 135 BPM during most of the track.
- Sound design. Just random knob turning to taste, LFO stuff and effects.
- All EQs and reverbs are in-synth.
- Volume mixing mostly (not 100% though) in-synth and MIDI velocity.

My Entry: "Centuries". Made of OSC 189
Style: Electronic Soundtrack Circa. With Pop, Classical and Drone
elements. (please let me know if the mix sounds too bright/loud)
#8 instances of MYTH VST3 in EXT64 beta (see screenshot).
#1 custom sample imported in MYTH for 2 drums sounds.
#free VST effects: RSS EQ302, EfektorGQ36, LoudMax64.
Cover picture base by Microsoft AI, manually edited.
What about this MYTH synth? Surely it sounds good, but of the many
'mangling' resynthesis features some I found useless, sounding to me
like many alternative types of harmonic distortions. Therefore too
expensive as CPU load for the actual results, those could be replaced
with focused external plug-in effects, in studio use.
What I liked most of MYTH is the easy adding of envelopes and
synced LFO to modulate the parameters.
Thanks again to the organizers of this awesome One Synth Challenge.

I don't think there are too many rules. In general.Marok99 wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:14 pm I find there are perhaps too many rules, which can sometimes be a little overwhelming.
1. ALL sounds must be made by the chosen synth - no other sound generation software allowed.
2. Extending (1), no samples are allowed- breaks rule 1 if you do.
3. All FX must be freely available , no paid for (or limited availability "magware").
The only time it can be complicated is:
4. ... when the synth has sampling or wavetable features. You are not allowed to use the synth to playback samples (eg kick drum etc)
5. ...some rounds allow paid for commercial FX, and that is made explicit in the start page for that round.
6. ... if the synth is very cpu heavy, you can freeze a whole track at a time.
6a ... you must not freeze part of a track, eg a kick sound, and then cut and paste that audio.
But really, rules 1-3 cover most things - don't be put off. If you adhere to those, you are good to go. Any finesse of the rules can be discussed here or by PM if you don't understand. This is a friendly challenge, good people here.

does it mean that when my shit is done, I can't change midi to wav? Just render from midi?doctorbob wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:46 pmI don't think there are too many rules. You will of course create your track with MIDI, then render that midi to a stereo audio track, using whatever free fx you wish to use on the individual tracks and master.Marok99 wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 4:15 pm does it mean that when my shit is done, I can't change midi to wav? In terms of FX, you must not use modulating FX that alter the sound of the synth too much, eg chorus, flanger, distortions etc. You can of course use whatever you want if it's included in the synth FX section itself.
You will need to post the completed track to a Soundcloud account and post a link here. Make sure it is downloadable.

As a return contender, my own nutshelled rules for any month are this:
The reason for the last three rules is to distinguish the sound as coming from the synth and not to transform it so much that it becomes unrecognizable.
Hope this helps~
- All sound must come from the synth, including the ability to freeze entire tracks to save CPU if needed
- No commercial effects unless allowed for the month
- No modular effects (chorus/phaser/flanger) allowed unless they are part of the synth itself
- No heavy distortion unless it is part of the synth itself
- No pitching/shifting effects unless it is part of the synth itself (ie internally modulating the pitch)
The reason for the last three rules is to distinguish the sound as coming from the synth and not to transform it so much that it becomes unrecognizable.
Hope this helps~
