What's going on with BDF3 ?

Been using EZD3 for a while and decided to look around. Came across BDF3 which sounds really good, but having read through all the reviews it seems it is massively problematic. The sale price is very tempting but not if you're constantly wasting time trying to get this up and running. What are the plans, if any, of the dev to resolve all this and give the users a usable drum app ? And what is the point of the 'every three month thing'. Didn't quite understand that.
BTW tried BDF Player, it seems very promising.

Red is Red and anything that is Red is an object, a class in itself or a real thing if you prefer"

BFD3 is great as far as I'm concerned but opinions differ. Most gripes seem to be about users understandable dislike of the licensing system which requires a log in to relicense every 90 day. It's a pain in the arse but I and many others live with it. Current BFD3.4 has no VST3 but a new 3.5 version is in beta and that has VST3 and other enhancements and I think will be a fee update.MeanMrMustard wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2024 3:24 pm Been using EZD3 for a while and decided to look around. At current sale price for BFD3 and its add-ons its a bargain, again in my opinion

I moved from BFD3 (having used it from BFD1) to Superior Drummer3 because of all the problems with the licence manager, and also being opposed to the three month check on principle. Development is super slow: remember this is inMusic, buyer of brands in trouble.

I was pretty heavily invested in BFD2 and numerous expansions that sat unused on my drive for the past few years because it was no longer compatible with my OS. So, I upgraded to BFD3 with the sale last week. I posted this in another thread but, long story short, downloading, installing, (multiple times each) and finally getting it to work was a 3-hour ordeal that I would've much rather spent on something more productive. Anyway, I finally got everything installed and the factory library works great, but none the samples for any of my expansions will load. It might be something simple to fix, but I gave up at that point and will revisit it on a sleepless night or something. I know that other people have had little/no issues with the installation, though, so my scenario isn't necessarily anybody else's.
Now that it's installed, the factory library sounds great, and I really like the new UI. I've only used it briefly, but it feels pretty snappy and functional and definitely worth $39. I obviously haven't had it long enough to experience the 90-day phone-home thing, but it seems like a minor annoyance.

The licensing thing sucks, but the bigger worry to me are people having installation issues, like cryophonik above.
I just don't need new drums, even great ones, bad enough to deal with issues like that even for $39.

BFD3 is my main acoustic drumming tool. I've been using it for many years and have tons of libraries for it. It still works fine. The "licensing thing" is what it is but is no where near a deal breaker for me. I recommend it but YYMV depending on your specific needs and neuroses.

"massively problematic" is too inaccurate to be more than a lot of user error. collectively one problem probably resembles or is basically identical to the next. There is a best practices to installing it that once deviated from there will be problems; and this is maybe not so intuitive or apparent at first. You need a top directory, let's just call it BFD Drums (the name of the company now). Create this in advance. When you select a folder for an installation let the installer create a folder - IE: this doesn't yet exist, it will ask you if you want to create it - so the new subfolder has the name of the library, here under the higher directory. That's it.
It's very simple. I don't remember the particular pitfalls from trying other organizational strategies or that, because this is 100% idiot-proof, and it's been this way for the life of BFD3. It was probably this way back to BFD "1" but I don't quite remember.
PS: as pertains to the licensing, it can suck when that rolls around, you weren't online, and here's some server SNAFU. It is 90 days last I checked. So best to not be absent-minded here.

It's hardly 'idiot-proof'. I've been doing this since BFD1 so I know what I'm doing. It's not user error. Funny how this same user managed to install SD3, plus every other of the hundreds of plug-ins I own with no problems.
To get even close to a decent install I had to manually find every BFD file ever created. It doesn't help that the installer creates files in every conceivable place possible (and a few you wouldn't conceive of), so trying to put this onto the user is disingenuous at best. InMusic need to get their shit together. They won't.
