Agree - don't see any point whatsoever for them. However Cherry aren't the only culprits by a long way, so not fair to pick on them for silly keyboards. Far fancier and more expensive companies seem to think we all play keyboards with our mouse, very slowly note by note. But yeah - 2 keyboards?
Do I need 2 mice to play it, or is that 2 mouses?

Why? A vintage Prophet 10 is just two Prophet 5's stacked togetherTeksonik wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2024 8:39 pm I thought for sure KVR would Bukkake all over this synth being a Prophet 10 and all (which you can buy now for the low low price of $16,999 at Reverb.com)
I got the Arturia Prophet 5 included with the V collection, and I have Repro. My Prophet 5 needs are already covered quite well and since they are plugins I can stack them in unlimited fashion
I am sure most users here who want/need/love the Prophet 5 sound are already pretty much covered
And have to say anyone who is paying 17 grand for a vintage unit wants it for Instagram and YouTube not for its sound
Having two keyboards on a Hardware Prophet 10 looks amazing, on a plugin however not so much

Why? Because KVR has a history of genuflecting at the feet of any analog emulation.
Just look at how Oberheim emulations are worshipped and the hardware versions are some of the most Ober-Rated synths ever created.

this should be mandetory with EVERY clone style vst.
although, I buy stuff like this more for the historic interface than sound accuracy so these beasts can live on virtually.

At least have the optionMorty-C-137 wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2024 10:56 am Let’s do away with keyboards on synth plugin gui’s shall we please, for the love of all that is holy??

Let's not. Just because some can't realize any purpose for them doesn't mean others shouldn't have any use for them. And if you have to ask what they're there for, you probably don't need to know. I'd vote to optionality hide them though to help with the anxiety it seems to add for those people.Morty-C-137 wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2024 10:56 am Let’s do away with keyboards on synth plugin gui’s shall we please, for the love of all that is holy??

Humble proposal:
Please create 2 different layouts, one with the keyboard for authenticity and one without the keyboard.
The one without the keyboard should have an aspect ratio of 16:10 as that’s the ratio of most computer screens nowadays.
This would make the plugin infinitely more useful and usable as touch screens are not totally uncommon and one can make use of the full screen while adjusting the parameters.
I pray Cherry Audio will listen. Cheers.
The plugin is great otherwise, the sound top-notch, for 33 USD nobody can complain.

TAL does it the right way: Doesn't stick to the original layout, allowing them to optimise the UI for screen use, and adds the option for a small keyboard at the bottom for anyone who needs it.

You seem rather anxious about it.Vortifex wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 4:52 pmIt doesn't add "anxiety"BBFG# wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2024 11:09 pmLet's not. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Certainly, customization is always better for all, except for perhaps, the developer that has to put more work into it.
Otherwise, it's not really a problem that they're included for those that use them.

Plugins that are modeled after the original hardware layout are awesome, especially analog synthsVortifex wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 4:52 pm

I use plugins of vintage instruments to recreate the experience. The closer they are to the original layout the better
This is something Arturia generally does a fantastic job with
The advantage here is the closer to the original layout they are the more likely I am going to recreate patches I would if I was using the original 30-40 year hardware
Then I can click on a button and have a bunch of advanced features and controls not in the original
When you get plugins that are emulations that don't have the original layouts why bother. If I am not trying to recreate a Prophet 5 patch, or a Minimoog patch, or a Jupiter 8 patch why bother using those plugins?
I have a giant monitor, when I do this I make these plugins full screen, I have pretty much every knob and fader on that screen mapped to a knob on fader on my controllers, when I move one of those they also move on the screen. If I need to use an advanced feature I click the button with my mouse and use those features usually with a mouse, but I do have many of those mapped also
It's a fantastic way of working, and I will not buy any vintage emulations that don't have that
If I am not looking for a more authentic vintage experience, but still want a vintage analog sound, I will just use Diva for a full on VA experience with mix and match parts from a bunch of synths

What I want from an emulation is authentic sound and features, preferably with some useful modernisations like velocity sensitivity or more polyphony. There is no need for the UI to have the same layout as the hardware, as I'm interacting with it on a screen via a mouse and my MIDI controller. Good developers understand this, and optimise the UI to make the best use of screen real estate, instead of having to squish controls into a smaller space for the sake of adherence to the original hardware's design.IvyBirds wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 6:19 pm I use plugins of vintage instruments to recreate the experience. And when full screen on everything but the absolute smallest monitors nothing is squished like at all, on my 36" monitor they are larger than on many desktop hardware synths, even on my 24" monitor nothing is squishedVortifex wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 7:51 pm

If I am using my small laptop with a 15" screen they can be squished but then again so is my DAW and everything because I am making the choice to use something that small
I own a ton of vintage synth emulations in plugin form from a ton of different developers. Never had anything felt squished when they emulate the hardware as close as possible
Usually the vintage hardware is also laid out on a pretty intuitive way left to right just like when you read most langues so it's very natural to do the same on the virtual instruments emulating it
Good developers know that is what their customers want which is why they do it and sell a bunch of plugins in the process
You have indicated you consider Tal to be a good developer and I agree I own many of their plugins and think they sound great,
but when you compare the UI there is no advantage and in fact they squish everything together and don't take advantage of modern ratios used in modern widescreen monitorsVortifex wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 4:52 pm

What is the advantage here? Why am I wasting screen real estate on both ends and why do you consider this optimized? Talk is on the left and Arturia and Roland are on the right. So much screen is being wasted by TAL here

Tal is too flat, Roland is ugly, Arturia has the best rendering but so much space for vents and keyboard (and worst if you open the advance view)
