I feel like I read about this issue somewhere before but I am striking out finding it. I am having an issue where I have two separate guitar tracks. If I begin playing the track at the start of the file in Reaper, the volume is quite loud on the guitar. If I begin playing from anywhere in the middle of the song, the volume seems to be cut by at least half. There is no volume automation on the track and the midi files have similar velocity on the notes.

So far I have tried:
  • Changing output and MIDI channel settings in Evolution Rock Standard
  • Starting over with new tracks
  • Removing and adding ERS instrument
  • Putting both tracks under one master instance of Kontakt player
  • Giving each track its own instance of Kontakt Player
  • Using Kontakt player 7 and/or 5
  • Re-loading the midi file
  • Writing the midi file manually (no import)
But nothing seems to work. Has anyone seen this issue?

That sounds really strange! I wonder if something internally that affects the instrument's volume is getting unintentionally affected. Does the problem seem to reset to the formerly loud volume, or once it gets quieter does it stay that way permanently?

I use Reaper as well--is there any chance you could email me (greg AT orangetreesamples DOT com) the Reaper project file with just those two guitar tracks?

Sending today (with a video as well)! If I play from the very start of the file, the volume is as expected. If I start playback from anywhere else in the file the volume is much lower.

Aha! I figured it out after having a different (non-Orange Tree) VST do the exact same thing. There was some junk data in the events list view when looking at the midi. I didn't really think of this because it ONLY seemed to be happening to ERS on the one track. Clearing out those noisy events and only allowing MIDI notes through did the trick. Thank you for the offer of help!
